Have you had the room seem to twist up into the air in front of you?

I have had ocular migraine with only mild ha/s since age 16. It has not really disruped my life too much. I am now 78 and recently over the past six months intentionally lost 20 lbs by eating less and having no meat or chicken and lots of fish, eggs and vegetables. My weight is good now.
I don't know if it is related but for the past three months I have been getting the auras almost every day , with nausea. It lasts at most 30 minutes. But today it happened abruptly. I got blurred vision, kind of fractured vision, the sofa seemed to twist up and around in front of me and I felt like throwing up. My vision came back quickly but I still feel sick and like my skull is stretching to contain my head, hours later..
I guess this is just migraine but it gave me quite a fright. I have never needed treatment for migraine but I will ask to see a neurologist now.

Hello @agrince and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sorry to hear about the uncomfortable experience you mentioned in your post. It is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible when you have blurred vision, as you described. Have you contacted your doctor or been seen in the ER?

On Connect, there is a discussion group about Ocular Migraines. Here is a link to that discussion:

You mentioned that you have had migraines since age 16. What type of symptoms do you typically have with migraines? Has your physician offered any suggestions?

@hopeful33250 thank you for replying and sending the link.
Today it seems silly to ask to see a neurologist when I read how many people get these episodes. It sounds as if they don’t know the cause or any treatment.
But thank you for taking the time to write.

@agrince

It is never silly to talk to a physician about new symptoms, especially when they affect your vision. I would encourage to talk about this with your doctor.

Will you post again with an update?

I have just found out that I have moderate obstructive and central sleep apnoea. I thought the idea was ridiculous because I am not overweight and I sleep like a log, but I eventually agreed to do a home test. Could that have any bearing on the episodes I am having?

Hi @agrince - since you've found out you have moderate obstructive and central sleep apnea, you might want to check out the Mayo Clinic Connect Sleep Health support group and its discussions https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/sleep-health/.

A few discussions in particular you may want to look at are:

- CPAP & ASV Apnea machine Questions Regarding Accuracy https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/cpap-asv-apnea-machine-questions-regarding-accuracy/

- Can a CPAP machine treat central apneas? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/can-a-cpap-machine-treat-central-apneas/

- Central Sleep Apnea, Anyone try supplemental O2 via nasal canula https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/central-sleep-apnea-anyone-try-supplemental-o2-via-nasal-canula/

I also really recently found out I have mild to moderate sleep apnea. Can't say I'm thrilled about the mask I now have to wear, but I do it cause I know it's important to my health and it keeps me from making noises in the night and disturbing my husband.
