Have you had a Doppler ultrasound post liver transplant?

Posted by katebw @katebw, Oct 20, 2023

I have had elevated liver enzymes this month plus- I am nearly 2 years post liver transplant. I’ve experienced bad lab results before- when I have stomach aches which I have periodically. This time my team requested a Doppler ultrasound- I think for signs of rejection or problems with ducts getting clogged? Has anyone experienced this? I’m feeling nervous.

I have had the Dopplers ultrasound since my transplant...two years ago in January next.
I also get bad stomach, pain, bloating etc even like spasms. I found the medics didn't seem that interested as my liver function is brilliant following transplant. It worries me.

Hi Jann
I am now 6 months old and I have almost same problem including very tight abdomen feeling and difficult in walking . My pain was better but now again it’s back - had similar pain but less almost couple of month back All my reports including CT is ok , I am wondering if I will ever be ok .

You take care and let me know how you manage the pain . Thanks

After my April 2022 liver transplant my liver enzymes spiked in December and continued to spike every 5 weeks. After 3 biopsies following each spiking of enzymes and the ultrasounds because biopsies kept establishing normal liver, Mayo put in a metal stent because bile ducts were narrowing. Transplant team said narrowing was likely due to pretransplant radiation. Earlier this month my liver enzymes spike 2 days before a scheduled ERCP to replace my earlier metal stent. Bile ducts had not restricted anymore (which ruled out a return of the cancer). My problem was sludge clogging my stent which backed up the bile and elevating liver enzymes. The stent was removed and my tacrolimus wasincreased. My liver enzymes are dropping towards normal so I was given the okay to have blood draws once a month instead of every week.
The ultrasounds and biopsies are ways to rule out rejection. So I believe they are very helpful. Also I read that there is a treatment of antibiotics - a demanding regime for a few weeks that often can curtail total rejection. Knowing that calmed my anxiety about possible rejection.
Hope this helps,

@katebw, how are you doing? Have you had the Doppler ultrasound? Any update?

@colleenyoung you are so thoughtful! The Doppler showed nothing urgent but some possible inflammation which probably relates to
my underlying ulcerative colitis. I am working with a nutritionist to see if I can make some helpful changes so I manage my persistent stomach aches better. But rejection or issues with bile ducts etc. Slow and steady I go. Thanks for checking in. ❤️
