Hashimotos Disease?

Posted by lluth412 @lluth412, May 23, 2025

Hi all,

I am normally in the lung health group as I have CEP, a rare lung disease caused by eosinophils. I also have adult onset asthma and sinusitis. I saw a functional medicine Dr last month to see if there are other ways to be healthier and manage my disease. The blood work she did showed my Thyroid Peroxidase TPO at 396 so very high. My TSH is normal and my T3 Free is borderline normal (2.3) as is Free T4 (1.01). I’ve been on prednisone for over a year but in a low dose currently. The functional Dr is very expensive since it’s not covered by insurance. Do I need to send these results to my GP for a referral to an endocrinologist? As background I had Graves’ disease in my 40’s but managed it through diet and meds and I’ve been in remission for almost 15 years without meds.

My daughter had this for years as a child until she was around 12. She grew out of it. But her symptoms were same as your except she could not gain weight and was very hyper. Are they saying this is graves disease, and has if affected your eyes?

I am hoping to become more enlightened here. I have Hashimoto's and was diagnosed about about 12 years ago. Prior to that, I was on 88mcg levothroxine since 1995 for abnormal TSH. My doctor at the time did not check for autoimmune conditions but the treatment was the same anyway. At the moment I am on 75 mcg. Synthroid. (About 10 years ago, my TSH dropped to .3 caused by a bad recalled batch of levo. Was then switched to Synthroid) At the moment, I am seeing a different functional doctor, who wants me to try NDT. My latest TSH was 1.2, at age 68. I have other issues, my main one of concern is osteoporosis. My question is that I see many people say they "feel better" on NDT. What exactly is" feel better"? My new dr. hasn't said that it would be better for the osteoporosis, but I get the idea that she thinks so, and she says I would "feel better". I do have some anxiety, but I figured that went with the Hashimotos. Anyone switch from Synthroid to NDT? I am also concerned about the possibility of NDT being taken off the market with the latest scrutiny of the medication. Anyone have similar experiences?

I am a 55 year old female and have Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism and take 100 mcg levothyroxine. Hashimoto’s is known to cause nodule growth in your thyroid so if you get bloodwork testing by your primary doctor, endocrinologist or rheumatologist with a full thyroid panel (TSH, T4, T3, TPO) and it shows Hashimoto’s TPO autoantibodies, it would be good to get a thyroid ultrasound to see if you have changes like nodule growth. I had a 2.5 cm nodule in my right lobe and I had it removed because it was suspicious (determined by fine needle aspiration and molecular testing) and my sister had thyroid cancer. It was benign but they did find a micro cancer.

Hashimoto’s really isn’t treated except for dealing with any nodules and if there is hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Medication would be prescribed of thyroid levels are too high or too low.

It is good to see a nutritionist/dietitian to look at diet and supplements and see if changes would be helpful. You may benefit from a diet that reduces inflammation.

@dlydailyhope I have noticed since I started a gluten-free high protein load them moderate carb diet that I feel so much better. My energy is up I don't feel sleepy all day Am I tired yes. Is my hair falling out yes. But I've been sick for 6 months so and after not eating correctly eating cereal and sandwiches cuz I was so sick I wasn't getting any protein or proper diet. So I feel so much better and my daughter has hashimoto's also and she turned me on to the gluten-free. I recommend it it's not hard. It is hard if you love bread which I do. But I use the gluten-free bread and just don't have sandwiches I use it for toast. It worked for me. And I just switched from methotextrate for 20 years to Rinvoq and it's too soon to tell but at least my joints don't hurt. And a plus Rinvoq is supposed to help with hair growth!

I have commented on this discussion before, but I want to tell you that I agree with you. I have recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s and Hypothyhroidism. I now take 75 mcg of Synthroid to control my Hypothyroidism and have eliminated eating gluten, dairy and soy from my diet due to Hashimoto’s. It has been a life saver for me. I no longer carry so much bloat and inflammation in my body due to this diet. It does work!

I follow Dr. Jockers .com. He has so much information on his website. He has YouTube and an Instagram account

You might have to scroll a few pages to find thryroid but he talks about and has articles about it. He's holistic

autoimmune isn't only about the thyroid it's about helping stop the autoimmune attack and thwy requires certain supplements usually.

They have found that the gut is connected to autoimmune. And healing our gut helps. That requires a clean diet. No gluten. Low sugar. No seed oils and as much as possible no packaged food

It is easy after some time. Trhere ate many foods to eat but they aren't instant and take time to cook. I keep many leftovers for easy meals

I was doing decent and then cov barged in on us. Trying to get back on my path to wellness. Again.

Stress reduction also helps.
acupuncturist can help alsi. Some herbal products have helped me
Directlabs.com
Ultalabs.com

These both offer testing without a Dr order. It's kess money than lying through insurance usually

And you are able to decide what you want. They have specials also

Just by reading so much and finding so much and doing things I've read in the holistic side of it. It seems that Hashimoto's and thyroid and adrenal disorders seem to have low iron low B12 low fall eight low vitamin D, low zinc, well iodine some people have heavy metals some people deal with mold, and that all affects it. There's many holistic doctors that work with this holistic chiropractors work with us and have extremely good results. I'm trying to find one at the time with the Internet. It's easy to go on their website and read as much as you can to find out about the person ahead of time always do that. I would try the holistic group before. I tried a bunch of medicines, drinking enough clean springwater also and avoid soda as much as possible. Hope this can help. ❤️❤️
