Has anyone used CBD oil for chronic pain? And do you have results?

Posted by rensacb @rensacb, Tue, Jan 22 12:44pm

I'm a chronic pain suffer of 35+ years. Scoliosis is the culprit. Not a disfiguring curve but non the less painfully destructive. Almost every disc is bulging from 3mm to 6mm. I've had 2 spinal fusion. C 3-7 and L 4-5. Have 4 nerve root impengements with spondylosis in some areas and stenosis at interval from neck to sacral. Take steroid shots when I can with positive results for a few weeks. Always have Norco 5mg/325 ready if needed. Unfortunately I have found the best way to keep pain down is to lie down. So most of my days are spent on my bed. Any suggestions?

@rensacb I have been using CBD oil sublingual, for about 6 months. I had to get myself in the habit of taking it. I do find there is relief for anxiety, depression, chronic pain from osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia. When I forget, or miss a day, it's easy to tell. As I have not been on opioids cannot tell you the interaction or contraindications. I was very honest with my primary Dr plus my two main specialists, about using it.

Thanks Ginger. How much do you take, how often, what strength and is the oil pure? A lot of questions but I know nothing about this product. I only take the opioid when I have more pain than usual. I find laying down helps the pain level but can't do much else.

I use a THC/CBD mix when I can find it but lately it is seldom available. I use medical grade oils but since Canada has delisted marijuana in October/18 it is harder to find what I need. I do use a more expensive oil as that is what worked best for me but it’s so frustrating that it is now open to everyone as the producers can’t keep up with the demand. I have been on these oils for over 2 years and now I have to take whatever is available even if it’s not what I really need. Whenever I check (daily) there is absolutely nothing available and the restocking dates are never accurate. Ahhhhh!!!

@marychapman That is a bummer. California was the same way. For at least 6 months after the recreational realm began, it was almost impossible to acquire my usual medical cannabis or even substitutes. Now that all of the packaging regulations have been met, the stock is back and I can even order online and then pick up later. I can also request a call when a particular product is back in stock. They always call which makes it a lot easier. Hang in there. I understand how it can make you very anxious when nothing that you know is available.

@rensacb @artscaping Typically 10mg once a day, a second dose if needed. It is CBD Oil, with only a trace amount of THC (.03%). It is extracted using CO2 method, which eliminates the chemicals. I have been satisfied with the business I used before I moved, and have ordered from them to ship me as I get close to running out. Being in Calif, there are many places to purchase from.

@gingerw, Oh dear, I hope I didn't mislead you. I have never used CBD oil without THC. I use both a 1:1 CBD/THC or a 2:1CBD: THC. I purchase from a dispensary.

@gingerw Oh my dear, you do not have to have the “high”. Just enuf to sooth and calm….lift your spirits. Whatever combination works for you, and if you do not mix with alcohol or use on an empty tummy, you will be fine. The specialist helpers at the dispensary will guide you if you tell them what you are experiencing and what you want to avoid. I drive, play Mahjong, do yoga, and even the laundry. The THC is never an issue. I just feel relaxed and comfortable.

@artscaping The CBD oil I use is enough for me. I get the relief needed, and am able to perform daily functions. Other conditions inhibit some physical movement, that would not be alleviated by the THC.

They all say “start low and go slow.” This means gradually increase the dose. For moderate pain I read trying 20 mg. I’m currently on 25 mg every 4 hours while awake. Change dose after a trial of one week. It took me a month to feel a differencce. They intentionally make the labels hard to figure out.

@gingerw, what a good way to measure the effectiveness of cannabis…..miss a day. And I am glad you self-disclosed to your providers. Then you become quite the team for true integrated medicene. Congratulations and I hope the relief continues. You are encouraging.

I have Complex Region Pain Syndrome type 2. My pain is undescribable! My pain level is from 0-50, not 10. The Dr told me that and I didn't feel like such a cry baby then! Lol! But it is very severe chronic pain, it started when zi fractured my right wrist, pain was so intense (2015), surgeon couldn't figure out why I was in so much pain. Well, I've had 10 surgeries now on that wrist and arm, but it needs to be treated within 6 months, then the possibility of it going into remission are good. It took 2 years, there's no cure, and they still don't know how to treat it. It spreads from limb to limb, attacks your organs, and effects my short term memory. But it's in my right and left wrist and hands, I have little to no function in them anymore, it's in both feet and going up my right leg, walking is difficult, but it feels like I've got huge boulders in the bottom of my feet and I'm walking in them. They're also very deformed, my wrists and hands are to, my wrists haven't been able to move for 3 years. The pain is bad, when I get a flare up, the pain only continues to intensify and it can last 2 days to 10 days with constant intensifying pain, no sleep, can't feed myself, can't walk, it's horrible. 6 months ago my husband walked in the door and said, " here, try this, open your mouth, (of course I didn't ask questions I was desperate and I did) well, about an hour later I was sleeping like a baby. I guess I was kind of out of it, but I didn't complain he said, The following day he put something oily in my mouth again, just sat and stared, no complaining. Finally that evening I looked at him and said "I feel messed up" . It worked though. He bought me two different ones, but gave me the CBD oil with THC those two days, laughing he brought me another bottle of CBD oil with no THC. I take 1000-1500 mg a day of that CBD oil, it's works better than anything. Of course it don't take all pain away, but about 20 min after I take it, I can walk. Without it, Give me 3 days and I cannot walk due to pain and lack of function. I live in MI, so he can go to a dispensary and buy it. The stuff on internet did not work. The name brand us ,"Blue Sage,". I suggest it to everybody, but no THC. Lol
