Has anyone seen an Endocrinologist for osteoporosis?
I had pelvic fractures in July 2025. I am seeing a Physical Therapist. Due to issues with side effects to the osteo medications, I cannot take any of them. I have been advised to see an endocrinologist. I'm not sure what an endocrinologist would do for me. Does anyone know what I might expect from this type of specialist?

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in my mid 30's my primary care doctor put me on Boniva but never tried to figure out why I had it just shrugged and said that was unusual. I'm 55 now(haven't been on any osteoporosis meds in 15 years) and have a large thyroid nodule so I requested to see an endocrinologist for it. While doing my research on the doctor I saw she specialized in osteoporosis. She noticed that my calcium levels were high. I'm a little confused but I think that means my bones are not absorbing it and has been trying to figure out why I had osteoporosis at such a young age. She got me approved for envinity and walked me through the discount card for it. She has helped me out so much more so far than any of my other doctors have. I recommend an endocrinologist to all osteoporosis patients. I just had my first injections last Friday. My current score is -3.6 can't wait to have it checked at the end of the treatments (fingers crossed)

2 Reactions@ltfh my husband weighs 209 lb and was started and continues on HCTZ 25 mg. His potassium has stayed normal. We actually see his endo tomorrow and I am going to ask for another 24 hour urine collection. Interesting about your kidney stone. My husband has had a previous kidney stone but no problems like that yet. I guess we’ll get the results of a follow up 24 hour urine and see if a dose adjustment of HCTZ is needed. I’ll post any updates here. Thanks for sharing your story.
@gravity3 yes. He had a DEXA scan. Mild osteopenia.

Thank you for sharing. I hope to get lined up with an endocrinologist soon. Good luck to you!
I just saw my endocrinologist yesterday. I was referred to him because I had an neuroendocrine tumor and lost half my lung in 2024. I have osteoporosis and my GP wanted me to see a specialist because I have to be careful with medication’s now. My endocrinologist looked closely at my past history, medication’s that I’m on and supplements, and decided that I should start taking Prolia.

1 ReactionGenerally, ENDOs prescribe the standard meds…maybe ask one, before making appointment if they offer alternatives or integrative medicine.
