Has anyone taken Ciprofloxacin for pseudomonas? How did it go?

I have been watching a lot of Youtube videos on Cipro and the Black Box side effects mentioned are numerous. So far I have not read anything like that here.

@rozie83 Same happened to me, but I was too naive to understand and took cipro again. i had achilles issues, then my thumbs, and later shoulders.

I never thought that other parts of my body that hurt could be attributed to the Cipro. Interesting. My podiatrist told me she had to do surgery on the tendon of a big football player due to ingestion of Cipro. Doctors should be warning patients for whom they prescribe Cipro. Roz

@rozie83 I need to rely on Youtube to get details on just about anything. Doctors do not have time to spend on this with patients so we have no other choice other than do our own research on things like side effects, etc.

@picartist You can be proactive on this issue! Cipro is commonly prescribed for pseudomonas, but it is not clear how effective the drug is for that infection. Please ask your doctor if sensitivity testing was performed. My pseudomonas didn't respond to three rounds of antibiotics - cipro was one of them. It wasn't until we got to inhaled tobramycin that I licked it.
Sometimes, we just have to be pushy.

When my tendons began to react when taking Cipro I stopped taking it and notified my pulmonary doctor. He wanted me to continue taking it but I did not. We know our bodies and sometimes have to make our own decisions.

I had pseudomonas diagnosed in early 2024. It was not treated right away and eventually became colonized. I have had multiple PICC line treatments (usually for two weeks) to administer cefepime to get the flares under control. For the last year I have been nebulizing Colistimethate twice daily (after airway clearance) and it has greatly reduced my pseudomonas exacerbations.

Any side effects to the Colistin? My Pulmo said it is "worse" than Toby for side effects.

@irenea8 - I have had no side effects from the Colistin. It takes about 10 minutes to nebulize it and I feel just fine after each treatment.

Did they try Toby on you first? Just curious. That is great you get no side effects!

No, my Mayo doctor has only had me on the Colistin for the pseudomonas.
