Has anyone had experience with the Alinker walking bike?

I need some help with leg strengthening in general and pre tkr if it comes to that. This is pricey but it may be worth it in the long run. Does anyone have experience with the Alinker walking bike?

I finally made the decision this summer to take the plunge and buy an Alinker. It’s a little awkward to put it in the back seat of my 4-door compact car, but quite do-able. It has changed my life for the good. As I become better accustomed to it, it goes with me into more & more venues: doctor appointments, shopping malls, & exercising both indoors & outdoors. People are curious about it, so having it increases my socializing a bit. Using it is liberating. I can travel along at a regular walking pace and have no fear of losing my balance or tiring. I am eye to eye with others who are on foot. I feel confident in a new way. It is well worth the expense. If the cost is an issue, Alinker has plans for “rent-to-own” and will even help buyers set up crowd funding. It is an ingenious way to help people get around, maintain &/or build strength, live a fuller life.

@maryalinker Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Thank you for posting your experience with this walking aid. It's really good to have people tell us what works for them, and what doesn't. Did you try any other assisted mobility device before settling on this one, may I ask?

@gingerw the Alinker is the only motility device I’ve purchased. I’m pretty familiar with walkers and I own canes and hiking sticks, but the Alinker offers something unique— providing support and stability while offering the opportunity to strengthen & build muscle and a chance to be mobile in a way that compares favorably to walking unaided. Since buying my Alinker, I have seen pictures of a 2-wheeled walking bike, but the Alinker seems to me a better fit as it allows me to simply sit without being concerned about balancing.

I've tried several walkers and rollators as well without success. I'm also able to ride a bike. I typically spend 90 minutes a day on a stationary bike, usually working out with Peloton classes though I have a Keiser. I have difficulty mounting a standard bike and fell three times last time I tried to ride outdoors. I'm fine once I'm on the bike and moving, just need to figure out how to get there.

@backalley
Now that I can't lift my leg as high, I just lay the bike down,
straddle the cross bar & then pull the bike up. I get off the same way.
