Has anyone experienced fatigue after taking losartan for years?

Posted by carolinlv @carolinlv, Sep 6 11:28am

I’ve taken this medication for several years without incident and suddenly over the last months, I don’t have the energy to do anything. I wake up weak and tired, with my lower legs and feet not quite right. If I try and do chores, I’m pretty much done for the day after an hour. This is completely unlike me. Over the last six months I have weaned off of both bisoprolol and rosuvastatin. I am feeling better, but the fatigue continues. Has anyone else had this happen?

Actually it is not dispensed in 12. 5 mg. My doctor prescribed 25 mg and had me break them in half.

Hello @carolinlv,
I have been taking Losartan for quite some time (5 years) (I am a Kidney transplant recipient). To me ( I am not a Dr) to me it seems your conditions are dose related ( remember Losartan adds potassium to the blood stream) ..so if your Potassium levels are low.. then all kinds to issues surface up such as tingling in the toes/ foot getting stiff or even sometimes the legs feel stiff etc.
If you have such symptoms... make your Dr aware of it.. Can you share why the Dr is using Losartan .. do you have an Adrenal gland issues or excess RBC count. ( In my case it is excess RBC / Hematocrit, issues)
Best

I have a question about some Info in your response. Since my original post and your answer, I have seen a rheumatologist because my ANA and titre came back positive. They weren’t very high, but my GP insisted. The rheumatologist ordered a deep dive into ANA stuff through bloodwork and my RBC came back at 46.5. The expectation is not greater than 45. I could be explaining this totally incorrectly because this is a new one for me. Can you tell me what the hematocrit thing is all about? How is it dealt with? Maybe share your number? I have never known anyone with this and googling is never a good idea, even though I did. Just curious as to what’s coming up in the follow up in December. Thanks in advance

Wow, not to be a spoiler , my understanding is that -- Manufacture talks about not splitting the 25 mg ( well well...well).

HCT/HGB are calculated values
The approx. rule is HCT = 3 x Hemoglobin.
hgb=MCV x RBC divided by 29.8: This formula can be used to calculate hemoglobin
Hemoglobin is also a measure of anemia.
also if you are severely dehydrated that both Hct & Hgb. will appear high in your report

I cannot comment anything else as I am ignorant about that topic ( pardon me)

except if HCT is high which is my case I have to modify diet severely - it helps.. last 5 years I had a phlebotomy to reduce the value of HCT ( which if too high can cause blood clots if over 55%

And what is your number? Did I miss that?? Wondering exactly how bad my number is, but it sounds like nothing is really done until 55%? I do have atherosclerosis and I see heart disease can cause it but there’s a lot of those. I’m sure I’ll find out. Thanks for the information!

My doctor has also told me to half a few medications. My pharmacist said that’s why some of them are scored🤷‍♀️

Agreed. I know it’s not the ideal thing to do but in some instances, they don’t make smaller doses. My beta blocker was a prime example. I only needed 2.5 mg but they’re no longer made, at least in the US.
