Has anyone been on Lamotrogine (anti-seizure) med for migraine?

Neuro put me on Lamotrogine off-label for my headache and dizziness. I tried this years ago unsuccessfully. Side effects are headache, dizziness and blurred vision. Oh joy! Everything I already have.

Hi, @mikaylar - I do hope that this time's the charm with the lamotrogine for you.

@taterjoy mentioned taking something that had lamotrogine in it (preventative indomethacin plus caffeine plus lamotragine) and may have some thoughts for you on taking this to help with headache and dizziness. @sgboster123 @design1 also may have some knowledge of taking this anti-seizure medication for these symptoms. @minajo @heal33 @gemini58 have mentioned taking lamotragine for other symptoms and may possibly have some knowledge of its off-label use for headache and dizziness. I'd also like to invite @jakedduck1 and @hopeful33250 to join this conversation.

Have you started taking the lamotrogine this week, mikaylar? If so, how did it go?

With a caveat that this was a dermatologic medication, finasteride, I found that I had all kinds of side effects like dizziness when I first took it during the daytime. I had to stop working and finally lie down on the couch, as I felt like someone who had just downed several cocktails. It was too weird, but I could tell it would just wear off in time (took 12 hours) and that I was not in any danger. However, when another dermatologist wanted me to try this medication years later once again, she had me take it at night. That made all the difference. If it has any side effects, I don't notice any cause I am sleeping. The time of taking the medication made this one I'd thought was a complete no-go for me into one that was doable for me.

Wow, thank you so much. Doc said take this med in the AM because it might keep me awake at night. Darn.

Useless. None of the meds for migraine I have tried worked and I have tried at least 50

I tired several anti seizure meds to prevent migraine and none helped. Depokote and Lamotrigine did not help, and made me a bit sleepy. The only category that has helped prevent my headaches is CGRP, which are once per month self-injections. I still have migraines but much less often and usually not nearly as severe. The indomethacin and caffeine I take nightly to prevent a different type of headache, a nocturnal occurring severe inflammatory type headache unresponsive to anything else. I hope the Lamotrigine will help her!
