Hair loss

I was diagnosed with PMR last spring but have also not taken prednisone. Over the last 6 months I've noticed a lot of hair coming out when I wash it and it is now substantially thinner . The only medication I've taken so far is Naproxen. Not sure if a side effect of Naproxen or can it be part of PMR?

@annie25 WOW, last spring, for almost a year already?? Is your pain bearable? I only started noticing pain in December (4/5 or so out of 10) and thought it was from the gym, though it did not make sense. I had noticed the hair loss a bit, but not too bad. These drugs have some pretty crazy side effects.

My hair started falling out right after I started the prednisone. I had to take the prednisone for 2 years. Then my hair grew back. Good luck to you.

@pbhorton ..I was diagnosed with PMR last Jan. 2025. I started with 10mg. of prednisone and now down to 2.5 mg. My hair has always been on the thin side but since taking this drug I have lost (like you) about 2/3+ of my hair and it's so dry and wiry. My hair never came out in masses as it does now. I sure hope it grows back for all of us with this horrible PMR....and I agree with you prednisone sure does make your hair fall out.....Good luck to you!

I was diagnosed with PMR a little over a year ago and have been taking prednisone daily. I started Methotrexate weekly in May to help get off prednisone more quickly. It was not until I was near the 17.5 mg therapeutic dose of Methotrexate that I noticed hair loss. I started Nutrofol in August and by November my hair regrowth was noticeable and the volume lost when washing it is gradually getting less. I also notice less daily shedding. It was my neice, who has MS, who suggested Nutrofol. It has worked well for her. But keep in mind it takes about 3 to 4 months of Nutrofol to see results.

I took Nutrafol for at least 8 months....absolutely no new hair growth

I’ve taken Nutrafol for years, and saw no changes. After PMR & Prednisone, lots of hair loss. Now I’m afraid to quit taking the Nutrafol in case stopping could make things worse!

I also took Nutrafol, with no help I now take Biotin, it is helping me.

@darleneporter what brand? And do you take anything else for hair loss?

Cal Mag Zinc +D3, I started seeing growth in about a month, I don't color my hair and use a shampoo with volume, hope this will help you.
