Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Grateful I have a roof over my head; my brother, my roommate & my foot massager.

Hi @sore_debbie64 - Welcome to Connect! And welcome to our little Gratitude Group. I love the idea of a foot massager. I'm scheduled for knee replacement next month and I may just treat myself to one. At least I can pamper some part of my lower extremities! LOL. Any particular brand you recommend?

@parus A very cool design. Thank you for sharing the design with us. Sure, I'll do laundry for you. Funny that is something I don't have issues with, until a pocket doesn't get emptied ;)))

@parus - I LOVE the zentangle turtle! So creative. And @gingerw - I'm admiring your determination. I, too, tackled some chores today, but I don't think I was as successful as you were. Today, I'm grateful that I have stuck to healthy eating all day - no sweets. (This was no small accomplishment after spending all Christmas week indulging!) Also, I have an upstairs bedroom that has become a total junk room - just a staging area for Christmas. I'm grateful that today I was able to make the tiniest dint in organizing the mess. It's one of those situations where it looks worse this evening than when I started this morning, but there is a method to the madness and I'm hoping to get it all organized so that I can put Christmas away neatly after my son & DIL visit in January.

Today I am grateful to have made it to today. Tomorrow starts a new year, with the joys and issues that can come along at any time. But for today, I worry not about that. Tomorrow will take care of tomorrow. Wishing all good to everyone.

@lioness Good to know you are feeling better today. Do you feel like an over inflated ballon and itch like crazy? This fibro stuff is so unpredictable. I mentioned this to the primary and was told it was dry skin. They just don’t get it. My skin is not dry. When it comes to fibro I no longer mention symptoms. If I took Lyrica I could go the carnival and have fun. Commercials are so much ka-ka.
Another new year approaching. Remember all of the panic over 2000?

True about 2018 being filled with challenges. 2019 is being ushered in with high winds. Thankful for a safe haven.

I'm so glad we are staying home this evening. We were going to meet friends but they needed to cancel. As cold and windy as it is I'm not too sad about it.
