I have cataracts and glaucoma. I have made an appt to be evaluated for cataracts and surgery in November. I am afraid too . I have a seizure risk but my eyesight is important. I researched symptoms of cataracts and at what point it might be needed to consider surgery.

I too have a risk of seizures and made certain that my eye surgeon had focused on that risk. He assured me that my head would not move during the cataract surgery. And it didn’t. I was awake and it was done (laser-assisted for 15 minutes) under just local anesthesia. And what a difference in my vision, particularly the colors that I could see again. Best wishes to you going forward.

Thank you. It is very empowering to hear about success story. I live in NM. The sun is very strong here and my visual perception of it is one reason I want to be evaluated. Like you I think my color perception is off.

My son drove me home from the cataract surgery that day. On the interstate, I said, “Look at that red car.” “Look at that green car.” “Look at that blue car.” Finally he said, “Yes, mom.”😊

@methel I too was fascinated by the intensity of colours I saw after my cataract surgery! Never knew colours like these actually existed!

@cvestor Above is the link to look at for standard post procedure instructions, plus some great general information. I find it difficult to believe you were not given any instructions! Do you have a few youngsters who can lend a hand to help you during the recovery process? I certainly would not want you to overdue it and jeopardize your recovery! Bending and lifting can be counterproductive to healing.

No instructions at all before or after except to put in eye drops just about every 5 seconds No body to help No family all dead he wanted me to keep doing the eye drops I said no way puts my eye on fire for 24 hours Think I will pass Even plain eye drops set me eye on fire Told the nurse he will look at my eye pat me on the back and walk out And that is exactly what he did. Said to the nurse told ya They were pushing for the 2nd eye said no I really want to see something The link above told me just about as much as I knew going into the surgery One of the worst decisions I have made in my life

Possibly you are extraordinarily sensitive to the eyedrops. This happened to me, not with the cataract surgery which worked very well, but with another eye condition. The more the eye hurt, the more I put the drops in, and then the eye hurt even more. (As I remember, the problematic drops were antiseptic drops.) Finally I got the doctor’s attention and he told me to quit the drops, but monitor how my eye behaved closely. It worked.

Hoping this can be resolved quickly for you.

Correction to my previous post. The doctor told me to use the problematic antiseptic eyedrops, but then to wash them out in a few minutes with sterile water eyedrops. This took care of the problem. ( This was maybe 15 years ago.)
