GI Motility & cachexia after ablation for afib
My husband had catheter vein ablation in dec 2024. He weighed 177. One area on left posteria of heart near esophagus was ablased. He has lost over. 40 pounds.
He started having issues with digestion in march 2025. He is now cachectic and gi motility issues not resolved. I am concerned with cachexia affecting his heart. Weight:132 lbs heigjt: 6 ft
He experiences early satiety, abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, and is has diffulty swallowing food. He has had ct chest, abdomen, and head; esophageal mannometry, egd, egd/us, egd/endo flip.
No prior dr ordered stomac emptying test.
I am Concerned that vagus nerve was damaged during ablation.
He needs a digestive center experienced with neurogastroenterology, nutrition, and cachexia, and vagus nerve(gut brain axis).
We live in SC. The dr with this experience at musc has nothing available until feb 2028. He cant wait till february 2028.
At this point, we will travel anywhere; however, it would be good to find sorthing in the southeast.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I too suffer from gastro issues. In 2020, I was diagnosed four times with pancreatitis the third time my gastro doctor after asking questions doing tests everything possible finally said he wanted to do a DNA test to find out about me and how maybe he could get answers for why I was suffering. And I had the test done happily and so glad I did because it came back that I have what is called hemochromatosis it's a blood disorder that my blood has too much iron so I have to get blood work done every 2 months to check my iron levels because too much iron destroys your organs so at any rate him finding all this out and didn't blame it on what is the number one reason for pancreatitis is drinking alcohol too much and I am not a drinker like that I'm a social drinker but at any rate he was able to find that out about me put a stent in my pancreas and I haven't had an episode at all since 2020. And also finding out that I have this blood disorder I'm able to take care of myself check my iron levels otherwise I would have never known that and it's already affecting my heart my liver my kidneys but I'm doing okay it could be worse 6 years later but my iron levels have been awesome I've been able to take care of myself. But at any rate I would love to give you the name. Allegheny center for Digestive health I'm in the Pittsburgh area Pennsylvania. It might be worth it to try and see what you can do about getting in to see the doctor there are a lot of them in the practice so I hope that helps. Take care God bless. Cathy M.

It wasn't until my gastro doctor ordered a DNA TEST that I found out I have a blood disorder that caused my pancreatitis. My blood has too much iron it's called hemochromatosis, iron overload and it affects all your organs. I get blood work done every month to check my iron levels. Been doing good since my Dr as far as I know went outside the box and checked. It's called Allegheny center for Digestive health in Monroeville, pa. In the Pittsburgh area. Good luck. I absolutely love my gastro doctor. There are quite a few Dr s in the practice. Take care. Cathy M
