Getting GentleCure (IM-SRT) for my 2 Basal Cell Carcinomas

Posted by pianist3 @pianist3, Aug 21, 2025

Hi, everyone! So, I'm in the process of scheduling my treatment for my 2 basal cell carcinomas (they are above my lip.) Anyway, after much research and also being terrified of needles and Mohs surgery (I can't use epinephrine and I have severe anxiety), I've decided to go with GentleCure (IM-SRT). My doctor says I'm a good candidate for it. I'm hoping and praying that I can get through the treatments easily. I will be bringing my stuffed doggie. 🙂 Has anyone had this treatment? Please, please send me only positive comments and anything helpful to make this process easier and more gentle on my skin. I'm reading up on taking more healthy foods to heal my skin, collagen building supplements (maybe) and lots of prayer!! I'm just hoping and praying for no pain, no burning, no radiation sickness, etc. I'm praying for you all!!! Thank you for any encouragement and kind words...life is not always easy...but, I will certainly be wearing more sunscreen and wearing it daily from now on!! Love you guys!!! Mia 🙂

@pianist3 This sounds like a type of radiation I had some years back for a basal or squamous cell carcinoma I had on my face. Honestly, I've had so many over the years, I've lost track of the specifics, but I do recall going for a type of low level radiation treatment over the course of a few weeks. Is that what you'll be having? I've pretty much run the gamut for every type of skin cancer and interventions: creams, electrodesiccation and curettage (ED&C), MOHs, wide local excision. Basal cells can be handled relatively easily and painlessly, especially with targeted treatment as you describe.

You're definitely wise to be using sunscreen. Here are a few more helpful pointers: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/simple-steps-to-prevent-skin-cancer

I'm anxious to hear how you do after the procedure -- can you adding a follow up?

Hi, I’m in the process of having Gentle Cure low dose radiation treatments for my two basal cell skin cancers. They are both above my lip. Anyway, I had the first treatment yesterday and I have 19 more to go. I’m dealing with some effects from the radiation, headaches, dizziness and fatigue. Does anyone have any tips to combat this? I’m going to ask my radiologist if I can have a protective hat or cap for my session today. I have super anxiety, so it’s all really hard, but I can bring my favorite teddy bear! Yay!! Hang in there everyone and if anyone has done this treatment and have any helpful tips, I’d be so grateful! God bless!

I hav finished 21 days of gentle cure. My mouth is so dry. So far that is all. The radiation was beside. The front of my left ear. The radiologist said, it wasn't from radiation. But she put a lead shield from
My neck down. she says its superfical only skin deep and should Not cause any problem. I think it does affect diff people diff ways.
Sorry u r having problems.

A year ago I had Basal cell on the edge of one nostril. There were 30 radiation treatments so they were low dosage for a very short time. I had a mask which protected the surrounding tissue. I began to have fatigue after the 20th treatment. Other than that the edge of my nose feels a little like cooked meat, which I suppose it is.

Be sure to keep a good moisturizer on it all the time. I wish you well.

I have a squamous cell carcinoma under my nose and above my lip. They told me I must do mohs surgery. They did not give me any other option. I decided to research on my own and found Gentle Cure. I made an appointment and was told I was a candidate for this treatment. My research showed it has been around since 2016 and more than 50,000 people had the treatment. My surgery is scheduld for January 15th and I must make a big decision. The surgeon showed me how he was going to cut and it was a large area. Does anyone know anyone who had this trearment?

Call Gentle Cure No surgeries. I had skin cancer on my nose in 1995. 4Hours in doctor office in Jan 1995.
Cut then checked repeatively. Then June went in the hospital to have skin graft then Oct 1995 had 26 weeks of radiation. Worst year of my life. Now another between my nose and uppee lip. I dont want surgery again so Gentle Cure said I am a candidate but I am looking for someone who had the treatment to talk to.

@bhintz777, welcome. I see that you are interested in connecting with other members who have experience with Image-Guided Superficial Radiotherapy (IGSRT), a non-surgical treatment for common skin cancers (like basal and squamous cell). GentleCure is a brand name of IGSRT.

To help you connect with other members like @katydid77 @golfngal @pianist3 and others, I moved your questions to this related discussion in the Melanoma & Skin Cancer support group:

I just finished my second MOHS surgery on my left had in on month. Had MOHS surgery a month ago that shocked me to see how much skin and depth of skin removed. Got dissolvable sutures that are still bothering me.

Wednesday 01/07 had another MOHS surgery on same hand. About a 1/2 inch from the other surgery site. Was told not connected to first one. This one required two surgeries meaning the first cut did not remove all the cancer so they do another removal to make sure nothing shows up pathologically.

What can I say. I think MOHS is excellent in that don't let you leave until no sign of cancer. My poor hand though was still healing. Now another surgery and quite large amount of skin removed both wide and deep. This time they used regular stitches (have to be removed). But this time unlike last time got some high pain from last surgery site unlike none from first.

Not sure if the cause is different type of sutures but quite painful. Sent message to MOHS surgeon (Mayo Jacksonville) about pain. Scheduled to have stiches removed in 1 week.

Not sure if others have had multiple surgeries in same location but thought I would pass on my experience with this. I was not given an option when biopsy came back positive on this last SCC.

Now this is the 3rd SCC surgery in last 2 months. What am I doing wrong I asked. Answer, nothing. This is most likely caused what you did 20-30 years ago and most likely cause is sun damage over time.

I had not heard about the IGSRT and don't even know if can be used for deep SCCs. But since reading the other posts on this type of skin cancer treatments will certainly asked my dermatologist if it is applicable for me. As can barely use my left hand to type this.

In addition to SCCs I have had about 6 BCCs also surgically removed. Oh boy, do I wish I could go back in time and not get all those sun burns of my teens, 20s, and 30s.

Hi I hope everyhing heals well for you.

I am going to try gentle cure this time. They suggested Mohs surgery but I found out that is always the go to treatment. He showed me how he would cut and wow what a large scar thst would be. It is on my face, below the nose and above my lip. They said I am a candidate so I am staying positive, I definitely prefer no scar. SCC

I am searching for people who already had this trearment. I was offered no alternative. In researching, I found Gentle Cure
