Anyone have a hard time getting back to normal after ADT?

Posted by lacraig1 @lacraig1, Aug 15 1:54am

I had 3 shots of Lupron and one pill of abiraterone acetate (general Zytiga) to suppress my testosterone. I stopped this, because it was simply too disruptive. Last shot was early December 2025. I still have this disruption. I don't sleep well. I keep waking up, feeling like my hormones are racing around in my body Nap often. I feel lousy much of the day. I'm thinking it's affecting my heart. Want to see an endocrinologist. Anybody else having/had a hard time getting back to normal?

TRT is often used successfully to fight aggressive cancer. I do not know where your oncologist learned that TRT is bad for aggressive cancer. There are also numerous recent studies that show that Testosterone does not feed prostate cancer. A few videos are below:

@pesquallie
The problem is that testosterone can feed prostate cancer for people with advanced cases. Yes, it can be used in advanced cases to kill some of the prostate cancer that has become resistant, But there is still other cancer that is not resistant that can Grow and spread.

There’s no simple answer to whether testosterone will work for people with advanced cases.

Same here. 18 months since last shot, only slightly better. Very poor sleep,
achy, no where near the stamina I used to have! Oh, I still get hot flashes.

@narus what's a high dose? I don't know how testosterone works. They inject a dose and that raises the T level? so is this regular high doses of T as a therapy? And how high?

@lacraig1 A typical clinical dose would be 25mg every two weeks. These Testosterone hormone clinics looking to get your testosterone up to 700 would typically would do a 25 mg IM 1ml injection once a week. High doses drive your hemoglobin up so I had switched to 12mg twice a week but now I am taking 8mg/week. Once you are being treated you would take another test to adjust your dosage. Some people take testosterone as a gel you apply which gives you a more stable dose but is expensive and messy.

Someone abusing testosterone for body building might take over 500 mg/week.

@lacraig1 Hey buddy, sorry for your situation…I know you’ve had bloodwork up the wazoo, but have you ever been tested for tick borne illnesses?
I live on Long Island NY and the symptoms of occult Lyme Disease are very similar to what you describe.
I have heard of just so many ‘mystery’ ailments ultimately linked to a tick bite - an event often gone unnoticed. Just a suggestion…

It has been a journey for me. They say it takes six weeks once you start Testosterone to notice any changes. I felt better the next day. I started eating carnivore and exercising with free weights. A year later I had lost 60lbs and am in better shape than I have ever been.

Good Luck

@lacraig1 Wouldn’t rely on AI for anything definitive - just have a ‘tick panel’ done next time you do bloodwork.
Many people I know were stunned to learn that their various aches, pains, etc were caused by a tick bite.

@heavyphil I have had these symptoms for 9 months continuously since starting ADT. When the hormone situation is resolved, then if the symptoms persist, we can look for something else

but thank you
