Gastritis and very very sensitive stomach

Posted by catgirl309 @catgirl309, Jun 28, 2023

Has anyone here have a very sensitive stomach. You can't even swallow most vitamins because they hurt your stomach. Where you get severe stomach pain just by eating an undercooked carrot. I even tried aloe vera and it gave me stomach pain for 2 days. I tried vitamins through IV but they get very expensive between $100 to $200. I hated how my doctor just calls it long covid and just says just try to eat. I told him it's really hard when everything makes your stomach hurt. All he did for me is just put me on omeprazole.

I had stomach pain for almost 4 months. Upper endoscopy indicated mild gastritis, but dr didn't think that was causing this level of pain. It always hurt. He thought that my colon was full of stool - it was and Miralax has helped with that. It was difficult to get more than a few bites down. Presently, I still have very minor stomach twinges and tightness across abdomen below ribs - not really pain, but I can feel that it is still there. I lost 18 pounds, but am now back on a regular diet . Other Covid symptoms that began in October and got worse with knee replacement have just about disappeared. I was in bed for over 3 months with fatigue, stomach pain and shortness of breath. All tests have come back with normal results. I feel fortunate that I think this is almost over. I am being very careful, though and don't want it to come back.

Hi Catgirl309,
That is too bad that you have such a sensitive stomach! It must make meal planning extremely difficult. I'm so sorry for you. I have nothing like what you have but I am sensitive to spicy foods and seasonings etc. so I have found foods that work well with my digestive system. The main one is plain yogurt. It's very soothing and a good source of protein. Also, sour cream is mild and another good source of protein. Plain vanilla ice cream without any preservatives might be a good alternative also. My mother used to fix me milk toast when I was young and sick with a stomach ache. (I'm currently 77.) It's just plain toasted bread with hot milk poured over it. Also homemade custard might be good for your stomach. It's very mild. I have a good recipe if you would like to try it.
I hope things get better for you.

Hi did you find that certain foods really irritated your stomach with the gastritis. Like garlic, vinegar, vegetables that are not fully cooked. I basically have to eat mushy vegetables. I find when I'm in pain I don't eat so much so that I'm not regular. I do find though when I do go to bathroom I do feel better. How often do you have to use miralax?

I avoid spicy at any level, alcohol, and getting too full. Too much meat is too much. I take miralax every day with doctor's blessing. I'm 75.

I have gastroparesis. Which results in nausea if I eat the wrong things or get stressed. I’d suggest looking at the gastroparesis diet and look into Reglin and lorazepam and Zofran as anti nausea meds. They are all helpful and I don’t exp any side effects

My doctor put me on omeprazole to get rid of the nausea and the burning in the bottom of the stomach. My problem is that I can't eat anything because I get pain my stomach later at night and bloating. It wasn't too bad in the beginning I was able to eat more mushy vegetables and chew my food about 20 times. I tried aloe vera to help my stomach it's made specially for children. It gave me stomach pain for 2 days. Ever since then it's been downhill from then. That's why I wonder if I also have an ulcer some where.

I finally got and endoscopy over a year after getting my 2nd round of Covid when LH started. I have Gastritis. I guess covid ate up my stomach lining. Anyone else?
I'm on Sucralfate for the stomach lining and Cromyln Sodium for the histamine reactions (MCAS) and general body inflammation. Also was ordered to stop foods that gave me any reaction, hot sweats, joint pain, inflammation etc. That has left me vegan, gf, mostly legume free and except like 4 seeds, seed free. I'm feeling my better. Doctor said to do this for 6 months.

While it sounds like a very restrictive diet, I bet you're motivated to stick to it since you're finally feeling better. Any favorite recipes?

As I researched anti inflammatory foods I was led to eliminate gluten from my diet. The daily bloating went away.
