Has anyone taken Gabapentin for Fibromyalgia?

I tried Gabepentin and Lyrica and didn’t find them to work for me. Many other medications and treatments tried as well, but not finding anything yet. But that was my experience.

I took Gabepentin and the 3rd day when I increased it I had aphasia! It was awful. Knew what I wanted to say but couldn’t get the words out. Lasted about 5 hours. Needless to say I never took it again. However I have found Epsom salt baths have helped. It has helped with all pain but it can be difficult to find time. Sometimes only helps for a few hours other times can make a huge difference for days. Best of luck to you.

I am a 64 year old female diagnosed at 27 years old with fibromyalgia. I was put on Gabapentin high doses for years and I recently was diagnosed with more lesions than what they expect in a ninety year old. I was currently chosen to be admitted into the Center for Undiagnosed Disease UW Madison after DNA testing showed no genetic diseases marked. I do show dementia symptoms and have had two strokes, ( one Central Retinal Occlusion) and one leaving a 4mm Aneurysm. Also have had TIAS and seizure activity at times. Could this finally be my answer as to why? I was seen in Mayo Rochester after going blind due to second stroke. After reading report about the relationship between Gabapentin and Dementia, I am praying I have found my answer.

@kerryjane so sorry for all you’ve gone through. I’m a 66 year old female, diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 17 years ago. Also was taking large amounts of Gabapentin for years. Started to fear side effects so had it reduced from 2000 mg daily to nothing. Started having more pain and eventually went back on just 800 mg daily. Been having much problems with memory. Saw that gabapentin can cause memory problems. I’m reducing it now to one and want to get off it completely. The memory problems are too scary. My mother died of dementia. She didn’t take gabapentin but was having TIAs. I’m eager to see if memory issues I’m having right now will get better once I’m off completely. Are you still on Gabapentin now? If so, how many mg?

I have been on 900 MG Gabepentin twice a day for close to 20 years and I have never had a problem but it may be person specific. You definitely need to speak to your neurologist if you haven't though because that sounds more like TIA symptoms. I suffered from two TIAs, left side weakness and aphasia for quite a while in 2023 but it has resolved with therapy.

@daisy17 Constipation is a possible side effect; others have constipation reduced. I am not ruling it out though ...

I have been taking it for a year now and it’s helped so much! It’s helped cut my migraines in half, while alleviating nerve pain throughout my body.

@bcamilla74 I agree it has helped me with migraines and nerve pain as well. I also take duloxetine daily.

Fibromyalgia headaches: I’m getting these daily now that winter is here. Has anyone else successfully treated the tension/band headaches?
Thanks!
Sandra

@sandrahan I used to get migraines regularly, my doctor put me on Topiramate and I am now (almost) migraine free. It is working great, now all I need is something like that for the Fibromyalgia!

@haarvee
That is something I was dealing with before I started taking low dose naltrexone. That problem was solved once I started taking 250-300mg of Magnesium Glycinate every night. That supplement also helps me relax and sleep.
