Leg freezing but no other PD symptoms

Posted by don54 @don54, Apr 15, 2024

Does anyone just have freezing of your legs and no other symptoms of Parkinson? My husband was diagnosed in January of this year with
Parkinson gait. He has no tremors except his legs freeze. Dr put him on carb/levo 3 times a day. Helped in the beginning but not for long. Dr then added Entacapone to be taken a long with c/l. Worked for about 3 days.
He relies on me to help him walk, trips to bathroom, help getting out of chair. His legs freeze like they are glued to the floor. We try deep breathing which does help sometimes. Once he gets up and going he can walk with no problem as long as he holds my hand.
Any suggestions? I am going to get a second opinion.

This is the first that I have found somebody who has freezing of the legs and no other symptoms.
Deep breaths helps him a lot. When he gets up from chair and starts to move I do deep breaths along with him and it seems to me helping. Once he starts walking on his own and he tries to turn he counts. And he said it works, which surprises me as he usually is against trying something new.
( sorry to put the last comment in but it is hard when I suggest things and he finds the negative side of it. It's not fun being the caregiver).

Also have a husband who has freezing legs (along with some dementia and extra-ordinary fatigue). I think the fatigue makes the freezing worse. As your husband does, my once brilliant husband usually finds a negative side to everything. Took me a while to accept that.
Good luck to the two of you.

Freezing and the tiny steps called festinations were my husband's first symptoms. Freezing happens frequently now especially when exhausted. He used a walker and moves safely even when freezing. He also has sleep problems and deep exhaustion most of the time. No other tremors only legs.
Found second opinions very useful.

@s100
I went for a second opinion and glad I did that. It appears I have frontal lobe dysfunction. I take madopar 3 times a day, with a little bit of help from this.
My freezing of gait is my only major PD sympton. Handwriting is dreadful plus my voice has softened.

Hello @carogemini

I see from your post that you have freezing of gait and a soft voice. Has your neurologist suggested any medications, physical therapy, or speech therapy to help? Will you share, as you are comfortable, a little about how you are managing these symptoms?
