Flecainide - effective? Side effects?

I’ve been taking Flecainide for over 10 years now, for A fib, and have had no side effects. It keeps me in a normal sinus rhythm most of the time, with rare bursts of A fib which only last for a few minutes, and automatically revert back to normal sinus rhythm. Before Flecainide I had frequent bouts lasting over 30 to 40 minutes at rates of over 190 bpm.

I took Flecainide for a number of years without any side effects, most of the time combined with diltiazem. The two drugs kept me in normal sinus rhythm except for occasional short bouts of a-fib, ....until I needed to go with the ablation route, and mitral valve repair.

I took Flecainide for 4 months and had horrible side effects. I would take my morning dose and have to sit for an hour or so after it because I would get very dizzy and light headed. Actually fainted a few times also. I was taking 150 mg twice a day and the dose was reduced down several times to eventually 50 mg twice a day. It did keep me out of A-Fib most of the time, but I couldn't function with the side effects. Couldn't drive and was so afraid I would faint that I stayed close to home during the 4 months I took it. Was taken off of it 30 days after my PFA. Good luck if you do go on it.

For my husband, flecainide caused dizziness and his crashing my car (and totaling it) into a telephone pole. It was a bad drug for him.
