Flare ups due to Fibromyalgia or RA?
Hi! So I'm trying to determine what may cause my flare-ups and if they are from the Fibro or RA? Since I have been diagnosed with both, I'm not sure which is worse or which is causing what symptoms. of course the joint pain would be the RA, but what about muscle aches and fatigue? How often do you get them? What triggers them? Mine seem to come after any stressful event- doesn't have to be too serious, but one that might work me up. And they are rather frequent- about 2 x week, each lasting average of 1-3 days. So that takes up a lot of my week! i would love to hear what others experience... Thanks!

@lamerex4 I too get flare-ups when the barometer changes.
Hi, all! I am posting to share my fibromyalgia pain and what I have found that sometimes helps. I agree with others here that barometric changes affect fibro. Not just going up but going down as well. And that's even if there is no actual weather event with the barometric change, so I want to find a good barometer. Been looking at apps for my phone, too. For me it helps to get through the flare-ups if I know it's due to something that will change soon, like the weather. I agree it is a struggle to accept such a diagnosis of fibro. I was diagnosed with fibro many years ago, back when not many doctors accepted it as a "real" explanation of pain. I also have RA and PSA. Rheumatoid, and psoriatic arthritis. Those also have the effect of weather related pain. I am taking hydroxychloroquine, which I can't say has improved my symptoms. And also tramadol and tylenol around the clock, and I started taking that for fibro. I expected it to help some with the RA when I was diagnosed with it. I can't tell that it has helped. I see a rheumatologist regularly. He prescribed prednisone, at 3 tabs a day for a run of 3 days only, for those flares. That does seem to make a difference when the fibro pain gets bad, also.

1 ReactionI am having a fibromyalgia flare today with weather. I am still learning so I hope it gets better once the storm passes. I have to work. The fatigue is always with me but the body aches, malaise, and flu feeling is hard to push through. I found it hard to concentrate at work. Tylenol didn't give me temporary relief. I finally just left to come home and sleep.
@darby413 it really doesn't matter its your micro biom in your gut its off you need to put it back into your gut need to eat more onions or leeks you can steam them if preferred kiefer, kimchi, saurkraut, asparagus this will help build it back whenever you take antibiotics or have an autoimmune disease this is our life. An setbacks like flares are a sure sign that your micro biom is off. Also try taking sporebiotic along with a probiotic make sure they last with stomach acid or you are throwing your money away.
@ckingsanctuary Hi, I am so sorry to hear you are going through all of this. Have you looked into more natural remedies and supplements such as alpha lipoic acid for pain and neuropathy. My rheumatologist recommended 1,200 mg per day and is over the counter. My rheumy also prescribed LDN (low dose naltrexone-off label use) at 0.5-4.5mg which at this dosage must be filled by a compounding pharmacy. Terry Naturally has product- Curamin Extra Strength Pain Relief supplement with Boswellia, Curcumin, DLPA (DL-Phenylalanine) & Nattokinase which are amazing for relief of chronic pain & inflammation especially in legs and feet (for non-addictive, safe and effective). If you haven't talked about Duloxetine (off label) for pain and neuropathy. I take 120 mg of this as is what my specialists said this is the therapeutic dosage for my conditions (RA, etc.). I would recommend following some really informative and trustworthy integrative/functional/naturopathic physicians such as Dr. David Jockers, Dr. Axe, Dr. Peter Osborne, and there are so many. Red Light & Near Infrared Therapy (see Dr. Jocker's podcast with Ari Whitten this week) is also very effective for reducing inflammation in the body, which as you are probably aware is the issue as well as the cause for many PIs (primary immune) and AIs (auto immune) diagnoses. There are many clinical studies on natural remedies found on NIH/PubMed, and I encourage you to check them out. Western Medicine has not caught up to what many cultures and natural medicine physicians know (my opinion). I hope you find relief and joy again soon.
