Fibromyalgia Skin Stinging Pain

Posted by SusanEllen66 @SusanEllen66, Feb 9, 2023

When my fibromyalgia flares, I sometimes feel like there are sparklers stinging me all over my body including the corners of my eyes.
My skin is so sensitive that I can’t use a gentle scrubby in the shower. If I do, my skin burns.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can do to alleviate the pain. Thanks

@colleenyoung thank you
I have not found anything yet that I can use for my fibromyalgia. My body is very sensitive. Lyrica, and gabapentin made me way too tired. I take Zoloft, and duloxitine for depression. I don’t notice any pain relief from them.

My body also has pain from neuropathy and osteoarthritis.
I can’t take ibuprofen because I am on a blood thinner.

Several years ago I tried CBD, and I had a medical marijuana card but didn’t like it.

Bottom line, my rheumatologist really doesn’t have an answer for me.

I get burning and tingling especially in my legs. It comes and goes. I have found that sitting on a heating pad helps me when that happens. I also get shocks and weird sensations that come and go. All of this can happen when I get very stressed or excited or even while sleeping.

Have you seen a neurologist? Could be fibromyalgia. My son has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Sufferers symptoms vary. His is burning sensation all over. With surges of pain. He has trouble sleeping through the night. He’s trying to find the right meds. And he’s getting a plush 3” mattress topper today to relieve pressure points. Hopefully he’ll sleep better starting tonight.

I get those same feelings primarily when I take a shower or have been sweating, so when the skin is wet or has just been wet.

When I get those prickly sensations -- I call it burning fatigue -- I feel it most when I'm lying down. I guess I'm more aware of it because I'm still. I have a prescription for an NSAID called indomethacin (Indocin) for headaches, which I take as needed. Recently I noticed that it helped me noticeably with my limb pain and stiffness. It helped my mood and made me want to be active.
