Feels like a UTI but test is negative

Posted by dustycat52 @dustycat52, Sep 24, 2023

At least once a year I get symptoms of a UTI but the tests are negative. This time the test shows nitrates but the other parts of negative. I’ve been on nitrofurin five days and don’t feel a lot better. I don’t have burning when I urinate but I have pelvic and low back pain, lightheadedness, and just don’t feel great.Anyone else had a similar experience? I have a history of UTIs.

I had UTI symptoms over more than one year. My doctor was good and prescribed meds for me to ease the pain. She sent samples for culture, and every time it was negative for UTI. She sent me to a urogynecologist for every imaginable type of testing (lots of catheters) and finally sent me for a pelvic/vaginal ultrasound. Turns out I had a tumor in my endometrial lining. Low grade cancer. I'm glad I had the warning signs, but it was a long journey to get to the root of it all.

Hi I’ve been feeling uti symptoms lately too ever since I finished treatment for chlamydia. It’s been over 2 weeks now but I keep having on and off shooting pelvic pain and when I urinate. I also have to go frequently like every 20 min. I’m not sure if this is still the chlamydia or how long this lasts. Let me know if u find anything else. (You should get tested for an sti just in case because chlamydia and uti have the same symptoms).

Almost the same story, numerous times, except this time I had no symptoms and the infection traveled to my brain. Yes, it can do that. UTI also caused urinary retention and urologist said I would wear a catheter for life,
I actually became psychotic. I have barely any memory of that time. Mostly it's all black, and probably just as well. I'm told it was that bad.
I was hospitalized and put on every uber strong antibiotic known to man. Days later, one finally worked.
Regarding the catheter, that in itself causes UTIs. I'm a widow and haven't had any relations with anyone in five or more years. So it wasn't that.
I went to Johns Hopkins for a second opinion and the first thing the urologist did was to pull the catheter, then told me about a cutting-edge option that could be done if necessary. I haven't been on one since. I practice maintenance, using low dose antibiotics, Azo products, low dose of Lasix, plenty of fluids. My lady parts have never been so clean!
I had to have a quad bypass when I was just 47. This experience was a thousand times worse.
Just my story. Wishing you all the best that you find an answer soon. God bless.

@hdwoman

What was the "cutting-edge option"?
