Fells like UTI but test is negative

Posted by dustycat52 @dustycat52, Sep 24, 2023

At least once a year I get symptoms of a UTI but the tests are negative. This time the test shows nitrates but the other parts of negative. I’ve been on nitrofurin five days and don’t feel a lot better. I don’t have burning when I urinate but I have pelvic and low back pain, lightheadedness, and just don’t feel great.Anyone else had a similar experience? I have a history of UTIs.

Morning from the UK, I am unsure of where you are in the world but, get in contact with your Doctor, take a urine sample so the doc can do a urine dip and if that shows anything it can be sent to the lab for testing to see if there are any cultures growing (nasty bacteria ). Best of luck, drink plenty of water, if you feel a tad fuzzy/confused please tell the Doc. Good luck and best wishes.

@dustycat52 Wow, this has happened to both my husband (recently) and me back in May. Both times we not only had a basic test, but a full urine culture which showed nothing. He has CKD so the nephroligist said if it happens again to call him.
If you get any solution, please let us know.

I had the same thing happen last December. I felt lousy the entire month. I don’t have any solutions unfortunately.

I’ve done all this and it still isn’t going away.

Earlier this year I had the same thing. Urgency, lots of urgency, pain in my back, lots of feeling terribly sick, but no burning. Many negative urine tests and cultures. I went to the ER. A CT with contrast was done. I had kidney inflection and diverticulitis. I was given two potent antibiotics and recovered. I was quite sick.

A urologist told my friend (who gets UTIs) that the bacteria settles in the bladder so it is best to test first morning urine. They had her use microgen: https://microgendx.com/product/uti-urinalysis-test-service-dm-intl/ I am actually considering this test as I have some odd symptoms I'm concerned may be a UTI.

Interesting, thanks for this info. That test is pretty expensive. I tested at home and then went to the health clinic to test again.

I’ve had kidney infections in the past from UTIs. I wonder how many of the symptoms are actually related to digestive issues like you had. Last Dec. I had a UTI that led into four miserable months of stomach pain and diarrhea.

So sorry for all the discomfort…I understand. At 71, have a long history of uti’s since late my 20’s.
That feeling…and then clean tests at home and doc.
Today, not many uti’s, but typically now when I get that feeling, I get dilated and then in a day or so I feel better. I can empty completely and nothing else develops.
Just a thought for everyone before things possibly turn bad…

Oh, yes. The diarrhea. My bowel movements have never been the same. It’s about 7 months ago. I was also traumatized by it.
