Feeling lonely and want to vent

Posted by ellie80 @ellie80, May 22 3:38pm

I don’t know about a lot of you, but I was raised that when your friends or family are sick or going through issues you’re supposed to be there for them. That hasn’t been the case for me at all. I keep choosing to believe that this is God‘s way of helping me eliminate the people out of my life that don’t truly care about me. I need to cut them off like sucker branches off a tree! What really hurts is some of these people ask me if I need anything and when I say yes, they never respond back. Why ask me if I need anything if you don’t want to help or don’t plan on helping? That has really been messing with my emotions. I’m the type of friend/neighbor that is there for you and your family. I’ll bring you food and home items. I’ll clean for you, take you to your appointments, whatever you need so you don’t have to ask for help. So you don’t feel like a burden and have to ask. But that’s me and I’m learning the majority of people around me are not the same.

I'm sorry you are finding such disappointment in your "friends." That happens to all of us at one point. My husband has lung cancer and we ran into the same thing. What we did was research local taxi's on Yelp for doctor visits, etc. Many of the taxi companies had bad reviews stating drunk or high drivers, dirty cabs etc. So we went one level up to limousines. A little more expensive but very dependable. We found a great company that we use all the time. Clean, beautiful cars and courteous, sober drivers. This is for when you go to the emergency room in the aid car but have to get back home or one is in the hospital and visiting may run into the night time hours etc. Basically we use the limousine service when one of us doesn't feel safe driving. It also works well for getting to the car repair place and not having to wait or the airport.
Best wishes,

No taxis in my territory!!! No health vans, yet doctors think you can just go to appointments with no thoughts of how patients will get there! Mailing prescriptions has gotten more expensive… last week a doctor I never saw sent me 2 prescriptions at the expense to me of $26. No insurance does not cover!!! Mkt

Hi Mkt!
I'm sorry to hear that you have no taxis or health vans in your area! That must be very hard. Have you tried finding someone who takes people to their doctor appointments etc. for a living? I would think in your area someone would be offering that service for a price. Also if you sign up for Next Door Digest you could ask if there was anyone in your neighborhood who would be interested in getting paid to take you to doctor appointments, grocery shopping etc. Be sure and ask for references and do a background check on them first.

That's awful about being charged for a prescription from a doctor you never saw! I would suggest writing a polite letter to the company explaining that it obviously was a mistake and you would like to be reimbursed for the $26. Sign the letter and under that put "Copy: George Wilson (any name will do.), Attorney at Law." That has worked well for me. They don't want to deal with lawyers and law suits.

I hope things work out for you.

That’s not practical for someone who doesn’t have money. I live pay check to pay check. And I’m only receiving 2/3 of my normal check while I’m out on leave. That’s not enough to pay for taxis or even to be paying for other people to take me especially not a limousine service.
But I’m very happy for you and that you are so blessed to be able to do that for yourselves and have each other. I pray y’all have healing soon.
God Bless you both.

I have written about this before, but now I think things are worsening. I have always been more of a loner. I was extremely shy and had an abusive mother. My therapist diagnosed me with extreme PTSD. Now I am a widow. I do not participate in anything. From experience I find that when I try to participate in any kind of a group I feel excluded. To me this is more hurtful than staying home. I go to the grocery store, the bank and the library. That's it. I cry a lot. I am now looking back at some of the events that have happened when I feel I did not act or say appropriate things because of the bad things that were wired into me by my mother. I did not know this at the time. I cannot do them over but I grieve about this and it causes me pain.

I can relate to abuse and ptsd. It’s a battle.
But give yourself grace. Give that child that you once were grace. You can not help or control what others do only yourself. If you screwed up, give yourself grace and learn from your mistakes, don’t keep punishing yourself. I have to tell myself these things all the time. But man, does my mind like to mess with me and make me feel unworthy and unloved. I just have to focus on making myself a better person; the kind of person I would like to be friends with. Part of that is loving myself more. Being louder when it comes to my health and more in charge. Not being afraid to see a different doctor because I pay for this insurance and my health is my TOP priority! If you can’t help me, I’m out, I’m not going to waist time anymore. Learned my lesson. Won’t let it happen again.
You deserve quality people in your life. Not everyone is the kind of quality you need. It might take a minute before you find where you fit/feel comfortable.
Have you ever heard of meetup.com? It’s a place where you can find other people who also share your same interests. I used to be a part of a few different groups. (Before I got sick again and moved).
I’ll eventually get back out there.
I hope this helped somewhat.
God Bless you

Yes, Ellie, 10% of people or family will help you. I love it when a friend came and I had a sink full of dishes. I just had surgery and could not get out of bed. She asked if she should do my dishes. WTH? Should I have said, "Don't bother; you are the healthy one!"

What a great friend!! I love that you have people like that in your life. It’s so important to let people help you if they want to. Especially if they ask to help. My grandparents always told me, “Don’t ever tell someone no when they are trying to do something kind for you. God blesses those who help others and you are blocking their blessings when you deny them to bless you.
Hope those words help you like they have helped me in the past and even now. I always have to remind myself of those words of wisdom.

Thank you for your help & thinking the same ways of making decisions.
Had a private driver from 25 miles away and she couldn’t make it financially! Same as cab companies. So I tried medlyft that charged me $30 base fee plus 2.75 per mile. Cost me $176 for one trip to my hematologist for quick injection. The community I-hop does Not come out to country where I live and has no interest in me meeting closer. Plus 2 day notice nor do they drive on military post… for my radiology, Pmc, urology or other clinics!!! But the Medlift doesn’t either!

Am very hesitant to throw in a “lawyer “ signing for any pretending.

Again, thanks. I will keep hoping and praying 🙏 that something will come to be.
The company for express scripts is private for military doctors and would not refund or deal with dependents. Just one of the benefits promised to veterans and families by congress who , like illegals get free medical care.
Haven’t tried the next door site as I dropped it when I began to get many scams. Ha, neighbors are tired of driving me and hold two jobs or just uncaring about others. It’s 24 miles round trip to PMC , and 45 miles round trip to hematologist.

Sorry,,don't mean to shoot down all your great ideas , but I’ ve been at this transportation finding for 10 years!!!! Went through the entire process and now trying maybe other options.
Hmm, don’t background checks cost money to do???

Yep. Church members don’t even jump in to help. Have had one couple bring a meal in 10 years.
Ohhh, cancer must be contagious!!!!?????

@ellie80, I'm sorry to hear that the people you've invested in and call friends are not coming through for you as one would and could expect.

I wonder if you have also found that help has come from unexpected places or people. My cousin for example, was given a parking pass for her daily radiation treatments from a neighbor with whom she isn't particularly close. It was unexpected, kind and very appreciated.

Do you have any examples of getting unexpected offers of help?
