Facial fasiculations and drooping eyelid

Posted by bumble81 @bumble81, Wed, Sep 11 10:21am

Last April I started to notice my left upper eyelid was moving a lot more than what I think is normal. But I ignored it. Now the muscles below my left eye and down my cheek are firing off nonstop. It's very obvious to those around me. Also, my left eye has started to droop randomly off and on. I managed to get photos and videos this time.

Hi, @bumble81 – That sounds bothersome to have your upper left eyelid move around more than normal, some muscles firing below your left eye firing nonstop and a drooping left eye at times.

I'd like to bring a few members into the conversation who may be familiar with something like this, like @hopeful33250 @jeffrapp @sherryw @brightwings and @rwinney. They may have some input to share with you on what may be going on.

Have you noticed any triggers for any of these symptoms, bumble81?

Thanks Lisa.
I read this and bells started to ring in my head.

What have the doctors and reports said???
Lisa, you know me, I don’t get excited but I am feeling a sense of this has to be checked out now. .

Hello @bumble81

As @brightwings said, this is getting me a bit concerned as well. I hope you have been to see an eye specialist, if not please do so. I would also think that a consult with a neruologist might be good.

You said that this started in April and that it is noticeable to others. Do you have any other facial paralysis? Any history of Guillian Barre Syndrome? Any family history of this type of problem?

If you are comfortable doing so, will you post about what specialists you have seen? Any disorders that have been ruled-out?

Hello. I have chronic migraine, Small Fiber Neuropathy and have had cataract surgeries, corneal transplants and secondary cataracts. Before getting on Lyrica my facial nerve pains were very bad. Regarding my eyes, after my surgeries and procedures

I had extreme photophobia which should have been corrected but wasn't. I lost my ability to drive in the dark due to contrast of lights from cars, stores. traffic lights. I would get what felt like lightening bolts in my eyes in addition to the facial and temple sharp pains and would also trigger migraines. One day last year an extreme attack happened in one eye and it kind of felt like if I were to have to have had a stroke. All my eye exams were fine but I now notice that eye lid feels heavier, droopy and can't open as wide. I have no answers and just think that's it's really tough to pinpoint given my circumstances. No-one has answers for me regarding my photophobia. I personally think SFN effects my eyes as well considering the cornea has a freat deal of nerve fibers. I'm wondering if you have nerve damage verses muscle but I'm no Doctor. and if I were you I'd get an appointment asap. Eyes are nothing to mess around with…no matter what. Please keep us posted and good luck.

Sorry for those previous typos. Not on my game tonight! Wanted to make a mention that photos and videos are excellent. I'm just hoping you have brought them to a Neurologist first and foremost.

I actually seen a neurologist today, not mine though. He said that the fasciculations under my eye are probably just stress or fatigue related.

The doctor did not have much to say about it other than it was probably just stress related. I will see my regular neurologist on Monday. I do need a swallow and breathing study done as I have been having difficulty with both, but he did not think the facial muscle twitching is related to my swallowing and breathing troubles.

I am glad to hear that you will be seeing your regular neurologist on Monday. You mentioned needing swallow and breathing studies. If you don't mind sharing more, could you share with me what type of swallowing and breathing problems you are currently having? I look forward to hearing from you again.

Will you post again after your Monday appointment?

I am having issues with food and pills getting stuck going down my throat or in the back of my throat. My breathing issues do not seem like lung issues but more something to do with my muscles but they want to check my lungs just to be sure.
