Eye cancer
Hi,
Have an appointment with my doctor on thursday.
ScaredI have eye cancer.
Female 61. No medications etc
Week ago I noticed streaks of light in the corner of my right eye. Also some floaters appeared. These streaks of light are only seen in the dark, at night or early early orning.
Have researched and it is either the vitreous membrane breaking away or eye melanoma.
Scared...feel sick just thinking about it.
Am hoping it is not anything serious but...
Thanks for reading.

So sorry you are having to go through this. The period of apprehension and uncertainty is always difficult. Is your Thursday appointment with an ophthalmologist?
I’m sorry for the stress you’re feeling, it’s always scary when you have symptoms and fear the worst. I had light flashes in my eye and I could see them best in the dark, it was harder to see them in daylight. I went for help and was told that it’s normal, she called it vitreous detatchment and said that it would go away in about six weeks…it was still happening after two months and my instincts were telling me to get another opinion, my doctor referred me to a ophthalmologist who told me I had a torn retina, what really scared me was that he said that I was not a moment too soon because I would have been blind and nothing could be done. Thankfully I had laser surgery the same day and he saved my eyesight, two years later my other eye did the same but this time I knew what to. I’m glad you’re getting it checked out to be safe and thank God for good instincts, amen.
I have to get a referral from the doctor
Thanks for the reply.
Did you also have floaters?
Maybe I should find someone earlier to look at it.
I have had symptoms for a week.
I did have floaters and still do, I was assured that they’re normal and not an indication of problems, The lights you see in your eyes should definitely be checked out,
I would definitely recommend an ophthalmologist over an optometrist, they are specialists and optometrists are not, it will save you time and you want to get an accurate diagnosis, I made the mistake of going to an optometrist and she said that there’s nothing wrong with my eyes. I hope everything works out well for you, and that you get some help as soon as possible.
Did your flashes appear suddenly?
Yes they showed up very sudden and I was confused as to what was happening with my eye. I think you’re going to be fine, I know that we all fear the worst but you have an appointment with the doctor so it’s a good thing, any changes in the eyes should be checked out.
Hi Caz,
I have ocular melanoma and can share resources if you need them.
For now, hopefully it's just a retina issue they can fix at your doctor's office. 🙂
Thank you. What symptoms did you have?
I also have alopecia aereata. I do not have bald spots at the moment but am shedding heaps which has really not stopped. Have had it for 2 years. Long shot, wondering if that may cause eye issues? Who knows...
