Extreme Eczema with rash 24/7
My family member began itching (all over) FIVE YEARS ago. She has seen countless doctors, tried numerous medications, and has been on and off of steroids for four and a half years. She is MISERABLE, unable to sleep, depressed, and very uncomfortable. In addition, she was diagnosed with respiratory heart failure and her heart is working at a 15-20% capacity. We need help, desperately looking for answers. Please!

Sorry to hear about the heart issues.
For hives, you need to look into everything she is using.
Check medication’s for side effects
Check the shampoo, lotion, and everything else for what is in them
Even vitamins
I was told to use this one calcium supplement and I did for eight months eight months I had hives. I never put things together that it was the calcium supplement that was causing the Hives. It had to a form of great alcohol in it, which I’m highly as sensitive to
I wish the very best for you and your family member

3 Reactions@keellithorpe Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I echo what @minnesota10 has to say, checking for everything your family member is exposed to. That exposure could be internal or external. What happened five years ago? Move to a new location? Add a pet/family member? New heating/air conditioning system? New car/vehicle? New or different job/work environment? New/different furniture added to home [something in the finishing of that product]? As you can see, there are so many avenues to look into!
Will you let me know if any of our thoughts resonate with you, please?

2 Reactions@gingerw so, this came out of the blue five years ago. It’s my ex’s mom, i call her mom#2. She doesn’t get hives, it’s more a rash. She has been checked for allergies, autoimmune, countless blood tests, numerous doctors (all areas of study), she has been on dupixent which didn’t work, steroids which seem to be the saving grace, and she was just perscribed Egblyss (fingers crossed). It’s honestly so heartbreaking because no matter what has been done, she is so uncomfortable. Sorry, I just realized I didn’t answer your initial question… no changes five years ago… same house, same dog, they are in their 70’s so no changes. She is about 90lbs (soaking wet) and has been the same since I met her.
Oh, she (Judy) also has had breast cancer but has been cancer free for many years (about 15 I think)
Oh, she is also on her heart meds, and an antidepressant. ☹️
@gingerw
Check ingredients and supplements and medications.. There could be something in the supplement and medication’s that she is sensitive to.
For eight months, I was taking a calcium citrate never gave it a second thought, but within a few days after starting it, I developed hives. You talk about pain and they were all over my body.. One day, my doctor said I wish I could figure out what chemical is. I went home, check the calcium citrate, and the very first item was a form of grain alcohol that I am highly sensitive. Two months later, the hives are almost gone, but I’m still having an outbreak. I wish you the best and figuring this out

1 Reaction@minnesota10 thank you
@keellithorpe I am glad you are getting some thoughts here from other members. It sure seems like we are not alone in getting reactions from some ingredient or environmental cause. And sometimes it might be a combination together of things that are spurring on this frustrating problem! Bless you for taking on this challenge.
