Experience with Flecainide 100mg CR daily

Posted by elly679 @elly679, Sep 20 11:47pm

I have just started on Flecainide 100mg CR daily to prevent and manage paroxysmal SVT and AF. Since this will be the first time to take this medicine, I wonder if you have had good or bad experience with it? What type of training or exercise you can do or allowed to do while taking this medication?

NB: also taking 50mg Atenolol with it

I was on Flecainide and Diltiazem for a number of years to control my A-fib. I did not change any training or exercise, spinning, hiking long distances, 2 months trekking in Nepal after my ablation, but still on med.
Ask your cardiologist, but I didn't notice any changes in my abilities due to the meds.

Flecainide a dangerous drug for some people. If it makes you dizzy or your head feels funny, those are dangerous side effects

I did not take, but my husband did for afib. Three reasons, first almost fell in kitchen after first dose of 200. Second fainted ina hotel while eating (took it to bring afib back to NSR.) Third and worst, head felt funny and then he drove my car and fainted and crashed into a telephone pole and totaled the car. Pole had to be replaced too! Probably on 100 mg dose at that time. It is a dangerous drug for some. Given to him as pill in a pocket for afib. Amazingly he was not seriously hurt.
Just be very careful. If you take it and feel anything odd, then dont use.

PS many people have problems with this med, but some seem not to.

Thank you for the information. Is he on any other medication now?

He takes Eliquis to prevent a stroke. Had ablation 5 years ago. Excellent doc.

I was ready to demand an ablation for my paroxysmal A-fib but after several weeks under some very stressful circumstances without a problem, the electrophysiologist talked me into a trial on flecainide to see how I would manage. I was fine for a while but the side effects are subtle at first and then I started looking up the med and read the Black Box warnings! Not my cup of tea! I took myself off and went for an ablation scheduled in 8 weeks. One short episode since then; took one flecainide and was back in NSR in 2 hours. As for long term use, too scary for me personally! Each person is different and has to decide what works for them.
