Evenity and side effects: What helps joint and muscle pain?
Hi All,
I received my first Evenity injection two weeks ago. Everything was going well, did not even have injection site pain. But the last couple of days I have had joint and muscle pain especially in my neck and upper back, Lower back and arms. I've read the drug peaks around 7 to 14 days. I am wondering if this is normal, has anyone else experienced this and if these side effects subside? Is there anything you take before or after the injection to relieve this pain? It is very uncomfortable. Thank you!

@clowny
I will ask the nurse if the medicine is not cold.
Thank you.
@windyshores It has never improved and has worsened with me. I am at number 10, and I just don't think I can do any more.
@hopefullibrarian I have been miserable with joint pain and exhaustion since starting Eventity. I am very athletic, and the pain and exhaustion just can't be from anything else. I've tried everything
@songbird18 same reactions here and I am on number 10. It has been hard.
@miznancy I feel that my doctor doesn't think the pain is real. It just can't be anything else, and has become worse with every injection. I am far from being a hypochondriac, and just want to enjoy my very active life without this horrible joint pain. It is so bad now in my neck and shoulder that after X-rays I was injected with Botox in the muscles and cortisone in the joint. I hope it helps. I don't want to break any bones, but this has been miserable. And the exhaustion! I have been checked out with blood work, and that has to be the reason. Nothin else is wrong and I am a cheerful person- except when I am suffering!
@miznancy Just stop. A high percentage of the density improvements with Evenity will have been accomplished by month 10. That is reasonably clear from studies. If you are suffering I would say stop. I had great benefits from Evenity and no side effects worth even mentioning but unfortunately that is not your situation.
Note: I had a DXA after 10 shots and then another DXA after 12 shots and I got no further improvements. I had 30% increase in my spine by 10 months. That's just one case and there are no studies I know of where they did a DXA each month but I think it's a good bet you have gotten most of the benefit at 10 shots that you would have at 12. Even if you would keep making small improvements that needs to be weighed against the harmful effects you are having.
Do remember you need a follow up med to keep whatever gains you have gotten.

I saw my doctor and showed her how I was walking and told her that the pain was unbearable.
She said to stop Evenity. It has been 3 weeks since my last injection and I still can't walk and my pain is killing me.
@miznancy
Me too. If only the doctors can try it to see how we feel. I can't take the pain anymore.
@miznancy
I was at work the other day and all of a sudden my arm went numb. I was massaging my arm until I got home.
My fingers were swollen and I couldn't use my right arm.
I had them give me 2 injections last month in my right arm because of breast cancer a few years ago.
The next day I had a colonoscopy and the nurse started an IV in the same hand as the swelling. When they administered the anesthesia my body went jumping and the pain was the worse pain ever for anesthesia. I was fighting for my life and then I thought I died when I finally fell asleep.
I woke up and couldn't stop crying because I was alive.
Later that day the swelling was finally going away. It was like a miracle. By the evening I was able to use my hand again.
I get painful side effects between the 7 and 14 days. It has been unbearable.
I stayed in it for 8 months but the doctor agreed to stop since now I can barely walk.
