Evenity and side effects: What helps joint and muscle pain?

After my first set of Evenity injections in January, I started posting monthly about the side-effects I had experienced. They've been so minor that I stopped commenting after the third. I had exhaustion that started about a week after that one, then everything returned to normal.

Because people are more likely to share negative experiences than positive ones, I feel like it could be reassuring to continue my updates even when everything's going well. I'll bring things up-to-date.

My fourth set of injections was in April. The technique that the nurse used was different. She injected slowly. It was more painful than I experienced with the previous three, and that day the injection sites were very tender. I even had a burning sensation under the skin. It was more annoying than it was painful. I was trying to do focused work and it was distracting me.

I had my fifth set done by a different nurse last week. She's a no-nonsense, just get it done kind of person, so she did it fast. Afterward there wasn't much tenderness, and no burning at all though one injection site bruised.

An interesting thing that may, or may not be related, is a new occasional tingling nerve sensation (not really painful) in my ankles. Has anyone else had that anywhere on their body?

I may have jinxed myself. I went for a long walk after posting that I had tingling in my ankles. After coming home, I suddenly got a sharp pain on one side. Now I can't walk on it. I don't know if this is in any way related to my Evenity treatment. Has anyone else experienced this?

I just read this part of your post. I did have sharp pains in the top side of my foot randomly. Once it happened while just walking through a store and I wondered how I was going to walk out. I’m in good shape so this was odd. I have been able to sort of walk it off when it happens. It doesn’t last long but it is painful. Never had these things happen prior to Evenity/Fosomax/Actonel. I don’t think it is coincidence. In last two years since using these drugs I always have some level of muscle/joint aches or pain. I’m just getting used to it as it’s not so painful with bisphosphonate. .

@hopefullibrarian I think it's great that you tried to report on a positive experience and hope that everyone remembers that those of us with negative side effects are more likely to post. Evenity works for many and many have no problems at all.

That said, in support of your individual experience, burning, tingling sensations were my main side effect and by the 4th month were not really tolerable. Mainly hand, lower arms, legs, feet and chest. I do have high tolerance for weird sensations since I have a history of neuropathy. Maybe that is relevant. I also have lupus. Who knows.

I am starting Evenity next month. With Reclast they say to drink a lot of water before infusion.are there any things to do before Evenity injections?

@bwaykm I answered on another thread. My doctors want me to hydrate well and have a slow infusion of Reclast due to kidneys and to mitigate the possible fluish reaction the day after. Tylenol as well.

My doctors did not suggest any preparation for Evenity. For any injection or infusion I tend to hydrate but noone told me to!

Same. I also take my antihistamine and 1000 mgs of Tylenol an hour before. So far, no real reactions and almost no arm soreness.

Because low blood calcium can cause tingling and pain in the hands or feet, Because Evenity can cause low blood calcium, you might want serum labs. Easier still to add calcium. I'd want to know, (and would have a foot x-ray) but would probably want to get rid of the pain right away. I hope it is just calcium.

Thank you @gently. The pain fully went away about 24 hours later. I've been able to resume my exercises.
Hopefully it was a one off. I'll tell my doctor about it, and if it happens again, I'll definitely get my blood calcium tested. I appreciate the suggestion, and the link to the side effects even if it's not from your favorite source. LOL!

I had burning and tingling on Evenity but my calcium tested fine!
