I am 76. I had a total over 30 years ago. My doctor ordered daily oral estrogen. I took that for at least ten years and all was well. Then my doctor took me off saying it could cause breast cancer. I went through the terrible cold turkey symptoms. Fast forward years until about 3 years ago when I developed vaginal atrophy which caused my labia to split into painful cuts. The drop in clinic gave me the estrogen cream and it worked, but I was concerned so I went to a GYN. She recommended rubbing the labia with coconut oil. I have done this ever since and it has cured the splitting. I have zero discomfort now. I am not sexually active and I don’t know if the coconut oil would be advised if I were sexually active.

2 ReactionsI take progesterone, estradiol.0375 patch, testosterone pellet and vaginal estradiol cream. I've had a hysterectomy.Among other benefits I no longer have urine leaks.
And to answer your "why" question the money allocated for women's health research is a pittance! That is outrageous. I notice that few women are also getting testosterone as part of their bhrt treatment.

2 ReactionsI also am on the testosterone pellet and estrodial pellet and bioidentical progesterone 100mg pill. I am going to for my dexa in February and I so anxious to see my results. My doctor believes HRT is so important for women. Of course he isn’t a mainstream doctor but an integrative medicine doctor at Jefferson in Phila. He said his mother was on pellets until she was 98! I also feel an overall better mood, energy and less brain fog. I am 68…I am a volunteer at a museum and have to keep my memory sharp. I feel the hormones have helped so much. Forget the mainstream medical community! They can not think outside the box!

3 ReactionsGO on bioidentical hormones! You should not suffer! Find an integrative medicine doctor that deals with hormone therapy! Please seek my integrative medicine. Doctor told me his mother was on hormone therapy until she was 98 with no issue. Go to Dr Anthony Bazzan MD Jefferson hospital and the website will explain the therapies. He does do telemedicine. My regular GYN my regular internist told me 20 years ago that hormones would give me cancer and I have been on by identical hormones through an integrative medicine doctor since then and have no issues. I never went through menopause no symptoms because of this, it has improved my bone density since I changed to pellet therapy. Doctors are changing their whole attitude on hormone therapy with the old studies being discounted for cancer development. Everyone is different, but you have to be your own doctor and seek answers. I wish you well I know there is help for you.

3 ReactionsThank you. I just sent a message to my doctor about this.
I had a total abd hyst at age 25 and was on HRT for 25 yrs. That health scare came out in 2004. I quit my HRT. I ended up with carcinoid cancer in 2009 which i pretty sure is environmentally induced. Its a very slow but malignant cancer that ive had for over 15 yrs. Without HRT, i feel fine. Good luck...i wish u the best!!!!
