Essential Tremor jaw tremors and dental devices to help Sleep Apnea

Posted by kvrudney @kvrudney, 1 day ago

I have ET in my jaw. I also have mild sleep apnea and there is a dental device you wear at night to assist your breathing. I thought this would be easiern then a CPAP. I paid $460 for the device (out of pocket) only to find it made my jaw tremor more than it normally does. I tried it for over 2 weeks. Sometimes I could get to sleep with it in, but then it would wake me up in the middle of the night. When I went back to the dentist they told me they would not refund my money because I signed a waiver saying under no circumstances would their be a refund. Has anyone else had this experience?

Did they say to try it for a short time each day? I am sorry to hear that you lost this money. I got a place from sleep center. They wanted to do 7k worth of dental work before they would help me with one. I went somewhere else and used my 2 insurances. I got one, but mine was also $500. It hurt like hell at first then got too loose.

I have mild sleep apnea also. I tried multiple OTC mouth pieces band some worked, some didn't. I also wear a retainer so I couldn't wear that and the mouth piece too. There is a sleep specialist/orthodontist locally so I went there and they fitted and made me a combination sleep appliance/retainer. I really liked it, it worked well, BUT it irritated the skin in my mouth and made it inflamed! I couldn't believe it! The doctor said this has never happened to anyone ever. Anyway, they took it back and are researching with the company that makes the appliances on how to replace it. They are not going to charge me except for the lab work. The device was very expensive. The anti-snore mouth pieces really helped me sleep better so I hope I can find one that is right for me.
