Emphysema and Lung Exercises

I have severe emphysema. I have had a mrl lobectomy, radiation treatments, and I'm on 2 L of nightly oxygen. My scan in July showed my lungs were clear of cancer. I have a serious question, though. I keep physically fit and have a healthy weight. Given the degenerative nature of emphysema, would lung exercises help my breathing? One flight of stairs has me mildly winded.

You may want to ask your pulmonologist about pulmonary rehab so you have access to a therapist who can help you develop a program that is right for you.

Absolutely! Have your pulmonologist give you a prescription for a rehab center! They are the best!

I have middle lobe syndrome, where the opening of my middle lobe is so small and sometimes closes. My pulmonologist told me to get a second opinion, so I did, and he also told me that if I could find a surgeon to remove the lobe, I should do it. Because I am 78 years old, he did not think anyone would do the surgery. So I am very interested in how the surgery went and how they did it. I know you had cancer, which I do not have, but my lobe could collapse all the way.
