Is anyone on Eliquis and getting small red dots on their body?

I'm on 5mg eliquis twice a day for AFib and although I seem to bleed easier, I still clot effectively. Most times I don't even realize that I have bled until it's clotted. I have routine blood work for PMR and SMM at nearly every appointment and never have an issue afterwards. I don't know if 5mg is the standard dose or if I'm on a low dose.

I am wondering are you taking Eliquis for a blood cancer like ET and also take hydroxyurea for elevated platelets?

@1995victoria i’m taking it because I had an extensive blood clot in my leg and I have a clotting factor gene.

@cad43
Thanks. I never thought about it before now so I wasn't sure if anyone else is on higher doses.

@1995victoria no, I’m on Eliquis because I had an extensive blood clot in my leg and I have a genetic clotting gene that the doctor thinks contributes to blood clotting. He told me I need to be on it for the rest of my life. I’m not happy about it, but I guess I need to follow his direction. Good luck to you. I also have cold agglutinin, hemolytic anemia, which is a rare disorder that affects my red blood cells. If I get cold, my immune system will attack my red blood cells and will clot. When I have blood work done for my CBC, they have to keep the tube warm or else it will be clotted by the time they go to process it.

@carolm25 I'm with you. I am on Eliquis because of an extensive blood clot in my leg that needed surgery and have a genetic clotting gene. My hematologist is insisting I have to stay on it the rest of my life. I bumped my head hard about 4 months ago, and I went for a CT scan of my head, which didn't show anything, but it is still sore, and I can't put ice on it cause I have a rare disease Cold Agglutinin Anemia. I notified the hematologist office on Friday about the red spots on my body but it wasn't until yesterday evening when an NP called me back. She wants me to go get a CBC today to check my platelets. I'm very disappointed that the hematologist didn't contact me. He is usually very prompt. Maybe he is sick or out of the office. And like you, I am in fear of bleeding to death. I had even asked him a couple of month ago when we would decrease the dosage and he said no, I need the total amount. So I guess I will wait again to find out what my blood work shows. Just frustrating to wonder if the chances of another blood clot is higher than the chances of bleeding to death.

@cad43 your story makes me grateful I only have CLL. My new doc asked Y I was started on Calquence ? My answer low hemoglobin WBC 60s, then asking did I have CLL symptoms. My answer no symptoms.
New docs answer Hemoglobin number did not necessarily require Calquence and Zanubrutinib ….. both causing side effects severe burning pain in arms hands & calves feet, couldn’t wear shoes or sleep for about 48 hours taking about 10 days to pass & still have mild side effects.
The worst part of my body rejecting the pill therapy? My bloods in the 70-80s and my body is struggling to recover.
I realize first doctor anxious to start a new 3rd therapy does want to help but I’m more comfortable with new eyes and the more in depth diagnosing of my condition.

@cad43, as you can see from @tim41 and @william66, others taking Eliquis have noticed red spots too, but what they’re describing isn’t necessarily the same. Some are very small, some larger, some disappear, and some hang around.

I don’t take Eliquis, but I’ve had different kinds of red spots myself—some that disappear and others that hang around—which is partly why I’m wondering what yours look like.

Could you describe yours a little more—are they tiny pinpoints or larger, flat or raised, and do they come and go or hang around? If you’re comfortable attaching a photo, that might also help members understand what you’re seeing.

Do you notice any other symptoms or changes that seem to happen at the same time the spots appear? And have you had a chance to show them to the clinician who prescribes your Eliquis?

@jlharsh

I still have a few of them. There were larger areas that went away. The small ones don't seem to be a problem. Since I live in an area with a of mosquitos, I some time pick at the them as I would bites. Doesn't seem to be a problem.

I take eliquis every day because I had a blood clot and have Factor V (predisposition toward clots). I have never had small red dots at all.
