eating difficulties that plague PD folks
Mr. P. doesn't want me to enjoy my sushi any more. The man clearly fails to recognizes the peril that this puts him in. Braver men than he have tried to c ome between me and my food and they will regret it for the rest of their years. The first time it happened was amazing. As soon a I laced the chopsticks in my hands,they thougt they were leonard Bernsteins' hands anthe oter diners were my audience. Unbeliveably, both of the took flight simultaneously and a mirracle happend. I had fr oozen in placee, with both arms held high and believe it or not BOTH chopstics found themselfes a comfortable spot in my left hand. Of course, no one caught THAT on film, but it was amazing. So Ifried to use a fork for the rest of the meal., bit I deened it unworthy of my beautiful ushi. The next time we went for sushi, I picked up the chopsticks and before I could get them in place, foyh of them took flight again, but this time they didn'tland in my hand. Undaunted, I tried once more, with percisely the same results. Having palces my fellow diners in peril 3 times, I determine that I shan't push my luck and I wojldnt' use chopsticks anymore. BUT that was extremely unsatisfying. It somehow seems disrespecgul to the sushi master as the suchi itself. This sushi is in large pieces, not the bitty litle things that you can buh pre packaged in your grocery store. The fork didn't work. I also tried my fingers, which didn'twork well either. But then I thought of something. TONGS! ?? Not those huge things you use to toss salad or capture a potato from the broth to see whether it's cooked or not. But the kind that are used when one has a proper tea with firneds in a lazy afternoon. Plain sugar in a bowl is not welcomed at such soiree's One MUST have sugar cubes instead. Sugar spoons may be fine for loose sugar in the sugar bowl, but don't help much when you're trying to retrieve a sugar cube. That's why sugar tongs were invented, but before I trekked down to the second hand stor that has all the china sets and sterling silver eathing utensils, I ttied the kitchen store, conveninently located directly across the street fr om the Sushi place. I found one that's larger than sugar tongs and smaller than the lerger ones. I'm looking forward to conducting my experiment . It's not elegant, but I'm hoping it works. So wish me luck, and maybe you can give it a try yourself, if you like sushi. AND I have discovered something else. I have another example of ano optimist- an 81-year-old woman sho puts on her makeup every morning (including liquid eyeliner, and dreams up solutions for enjoying her favorite food, despitve that dastardly Mr PD.

LOL! Oh,my - can I identify! It is amazing to me how inventive we become in devising ways to make our way thru this life with PD, & PD presents us with so many "interesting" challenges! Sometimes I find it challenging, more often I find it depressing & sad......................

3 ReactionsI can relate! One "sad" aspect of dining with PD is having my husband have to help cut my meat. I'm already exaggeratedly leaning over my plate to keep from dropping food in my lap off my fork - I feel like people notice when we are eating out, but it may just be me being overly self-conscious. My tremor is not marked at this time, but just enough to make eating with utensils a challenge to appear normal. It certainly could be worse and trying to "stay in today" and not project into the future helps to stave off depression.

3 ReactionsYOU CAN BUY ADULT BIBS,
I wasn't yellijng in my comment above. Just sometimes I can see beter than others so all caps helps and then sometimes I don't notice it's all caps and it's too late to change it. And, of course, sometimes I AM yelling.
You can order adult bibs from your friendly Inter-galactic marketer, named after s a river? ??), with crumb catchers. You can buy pretty ones or funny ones that say things like:
If you can see this, I haven't eaten yet
Don't judge me.This dress was expensive.
Keeping the girls clean (and if a guy was wearing this one, it would be even more puzzling.
Dinner's on me
You ave one guess which ones I bought. ('ve gota a nice black one with a pearl choker on it like Ruth Bader Ginsberg used to wear. I haven't used them anywhere but at home yet - working up the courage to do it in public. If you have bibs for every one e at your table, the other diners won't know which of us has PD. maybe... or maybe they know someone who has PD and this will inspire them to buy bibs for their birthday or Christmas.
And remember, the number of folks with PD is growing,so before long, you won't be the only kid on the block; the odd ones will stand our like a sore thumb.. So, you were PD when PD wasn't cool. Remember Barbara Mandell and " I was country when country wasn't cool" so go put those peanuts in your Coke and put your bibs around your neck, Get a secret hand shake (I'm afraid to suggest a PD salute because Elon Musk might try to co opt it and stir up a w orld of excretia and we definitely don't need any of that nonsense!) Surely someone could re-write those lyrics to include "I was wearing bibs, ,when PD wasn't cool. OWN IT! Trickout your rollator like the Hell's Angels do their bikes. Start up a PD Miss America competition. Maybe instead of othe dance of seven veils, we could come up with a dance of 7 bibs. Well, I''d best log off before my husband gets home and thinks I've taken a bit too much l-dopa while he was out of the house for a few well deserved hours of doing whatever he needs/wants to do withou being interrupted by some of my PD moments , some of which are less amusing than others -( How many times has he come to my rescue when I whine that I can't find my phone?) From time to time, he needs some alone time,, and apparently spending an hour having dozens of needles poked into his body relaxes him after thousands of missions to figure out what new place I have found to hide my phone from myself). The man is truly a saint!

1 Reaction@windyh When that happens, remember that you're makinga rational response to your reality. And we all have different ways of mahaging through the wicked morass of all the excretia that is ilvfing with Mr. P. Sometimes folks just need to mourn their losses - all the thingsthey used to be capable of thatthey can't do any more. Every being on earth mourns losses. How many stories have you seen about some mother animal carrying her dead inffant around with her for a long time and eventually she puts it aside - literally as well as figuratively and resumes her life and comes up with ways to do what she had to do to get by -- and eventually they may enjoy their life.Everybody has their own process and they can learn a few tricks from others with similar experiences and any number of ways to discover their 'new normal'. It's not easy, but most folks look at the buffet of methods and madnesses and picks our a combo that works for them.
@jatonlouise
Not helpful and shows a lack of compassion.
Re: jatonlouise I think that we all need to remember that wherever in life we are, there is always someone ahead of us and someone behind. It is the same with mourning; some of us are still in denial, some are angry, some have accepted. I am at a place where I really need humor but I respect those who are not there yet.
