DVT (deep vein thrombosis) prevention and treatment

Posted by theswede1387 @theswede1387, Sep 6, 2022

I’ve had 2 dvt’s this year, one recently when I had Covid for the first time. I am 73 years old. My Dr. Is suggesting a long term blood thinner. Is anyone trying to prevent a Dvt this way.

I recently had a hysterectomy and unfortunately about a week post surgery I developed some small blood clots in my lungs. I am really worried about what to do and what not to do over the next few months during the healing process. What foods/beverages are ok and what to stay away from; my family wanted to fly for spring break in another month however we’ve decided against flying. However my husband wants to drive 10-11 hours to Florida and hop on a cruise ship for a few days and I’m wondering if that’s smart. We would have to break up the trip and drive it in 2 days and I’d have to get out of the car for stretch breaks to exercise my legs. Is that doable or too risky? I am worried I could possibly have other clots in my legs and am wondering if I should be wearing compression socks during the day in addition to taking my blood thinner. Will they help or should I trust the thinner is working? If anyone has any tips or can provide any help with my questions please let me know. Thanks!

I’m sorry I’m just now answering and thank y’all for caring. My family is wonderful but they don’t understand and I don’t want them worrying. I still have blood clots existing and few little ones that will show up here and there. This has went on since last November. I was on elequis 5mg until February and ended up inthe hospital with chest pains really bad. It showed more blood clots. I was ther 2weeks with it meds. They sent me home with the shots. Within 2 weeks my stomach was almost large knot and black and blue so they stopped the shots and started me on elequis 7.5 twice a day. My right knee will swell every now and then. I’ve been in the er so many times with bad chest pains.
I was told I would live with the dvt/pe the rest of my life.
On top of 11brain surgeries leaving me with chronic pain, diabetes, fibromyalgia, depression/anxiety and so any other things. I hate feeling sorry for myself with so many way worse. I really appreciate y’all so much. It’s nice to know other people that understand. Y’all will be in my prayers and thank y’all

This morning the swelling wasn’t so bad or pain. I have an appointment already scheduled for Friday so I think I can wait but ahead and called my doctor. He wanted me to go and have ultrasound done. I told her it had went down some, if I could get it done the day of my appointment because it’s 3hours from me. I promised to call if any thing changed.
It’s been bad all evening and still bad. I don’t want to keep scaring my kids. I’ve had 11brain surgeries and alot of scares since for the last 22 years. I’m sorry for texting so much. I just don’t know what to do anymore!!

I was recently diagnosed with DVT and PE. Started Eliquis immediately and notice a significant difference in the selling (ankle looked like a plum). 2 tablets 2x day for first seven days and then 1 tablet 2x day ongoing. After moving to 1 tablet, I see swelling still. Will share with Dr. to understand this better- concern or expected. Treatment for 6 months for treatment and prevention. Will see what Dr. recommends after the 6 months. I am 59. Good luck. I has caused me to be anxious as I now question what is DVT/PE and what is normal stuff going on.

I was diagnosed with dvt/pe in both lungs in November in 2021. I was in the hospital for almost 2weeks on I’ve medication. I was released on elequis 5mg. The keep sending or calling an ambulance because of chest pain. It’s because of the chest wall pain damage from dvt/pe.
I woke up this morning with with my right knee swollen and hurting and in my right calf also. It started starting stinging up the side of my leg this evening.
I’m scared and don’t know what to do

Has anyone on here been diagnosed with Factor V Leiden? I am on Eliquis and was told I would have to be on a medication indefinitely due to this. Eliquis is expensive but I have not had another dvt or PE since taking it since 2017.

Hi Swede. I was told I had a blockage in my superficial femoral artery in my right leg back about 2 months ago now. Rather than clear the blockage with surgery they put me on statin's and daily low-dose aspirin. I'm turning 61 this month. They recommended a daily walk even if I had pain from the bad circulation. I'm not sure if this answers any questions you may have. So far so good. I guess they preferred that as a first line to try to avoid any kind of invasive procedure. I wish you well.
Peggie
