Doxepin (Sileonor) or Vilbryd?

Which of these two drugs is best for major depression and sleep? I need something that is sedating because I'm experiencing major depression. All answers will be appreciated!

Today my psychiatrist suggested I start taking Doxepin for my severe anxiety, depression and insomnia. I am 78 years old and he said it is a good medication for those of us who are older. I have never heard of this medication before but I looked it up on line and research showed it is dangerous for older adults as the side effects can lead to falls and other serious issues. Why is everything always a contradiction between doctors and researchers. He also suggested I could take Trazodone and said it is not an anti depressant but, again, research said it is. I don’t know what to do. I would appreciate any responses.

When I looked into doxepin, I opted not to take it because you have to take it three hours after a meal, Which means I’d have to eat dinner at 5 o’clock so I could take it at 8pm to hope that I was asleep by 9pm.
Trazodone is an antidepressant in large doses, but 25 to 100 mg is prescribed for sleep; Even up to 150mg for sleep. It works for some of my friends, but it did not work for me. Made me dizzy and caused dry mouth, Plus, it took me two hours to fall asleep.
I’m not a professional, but I’ve done a lot of research online

I want to try it too. I see my doctor next week. I’m 51, and already on Prozac 20mg but not sleeping at all. I’m getting upset and frustrated at this point. I tried Trazadone which my mom takes and it works for her, but did not work for me the three different times I tried it. I woke up in the morning seeing trails if I moved my hand to turn on the shower. Like I was tripping. I tried Amitriptyline at 25mg and that worked for me for six years , but then I had to raise my dose and couldn’t go past 75mg 12 hours before I had to wake up the next day because my heart was racing like TCAs are known for. I tried Remeron for a while at 12-45mg a night. It made me sleep great but I was always hungry. Then there was Sereqeol I tried at low dose 25-75mg for sleep and boy that helped me sleep for sure. It’s an antipsychotic used off label at low doses for insomnia. I remember though not being able to wake up for work and being groggy all day. So fingers crossed 🤞 Doxepin my doc will even prescribe it. He seems against TCAs saying they’re dangerous. But I’m willing to taper off Prozac while going in the Doxepin to just get some sanity from sleep!!
