Double knee replacement: How do I get full extension?
I had a double knee replacement done 4 months ago . My bend is just over 100 degrees happy with that ! But the slight inability I had to straighten my knees is the same as before surgery …. 8-10% bend which is about a hand sliding under my knees . Muscles are tight but I do have a physio treatment every week
Any stretching ideas ?
I appreciate you all

2 ReactionsI have the same problem, just one knee though. I could not bear the thought of having double. I do all the PT and everything I am supposed to and the knee straightens some but within a couple of hours it's back to original bend. My PT has been a little to nice to me I think and yesterday he pushed with all his strength to straighten the leg. It was very painful, to the point of crying but I didn't. Today, I can feel it is better so if there is a way to straighten it without pain I sure would like to know about it. From what I can tell, it is very aggressive therapy to achieve. I wish you the best.

2 ReactionsI don't know if this will help you all, but after my initial meniscus surgery as well as my replacements, the back of my knee was sooo tight, it hurt to touch it. A massage therapist convinced me to let her massage gently, and I worked up from there. I started using a vibrating massager (not a percussion / gun massager) on the back and it got so much better. I would place it under my leg while laying on the bed. It eased up those tension a lot.
(Smile), I had to replace my massager and in searching online, all that came up were the gun type. I had to search for "vibrating massager". While I found one, it was quite entertaining and a bit scary! 🙂

1 ReactionI had TKR of one knee only but luckily I was able to have almost full range of motion within 6 months. One thing I did to help straighten my TKR knee was to sit down and elevate the leg on a coffee table or a box frequently to allow gravity to slowly pull it down and stop when the discomfort was too much. I did this many times a day. 20 months later, I am still doing PT and stretching lest the knee will become stiff.

1 Reaction@shark yes I see mine every two weeks . She does a deep massage that hurts mostly under and above my knees . I trust and value her ! Just looking for ideas
@steveinarizona while true the point of this group is to hear what worked and didn’t work with people experiencing similar situations . I’ve seen my physio for 16 months now since the day of my accident and getting some new ideas to ask her about could help .
@vincentyu and for me if the cat jumps up ? That’s extra weight to help ! My surgeon did warn me that I might not get fully straightened after my surgery ….because the bend was caused by the accident ? Hope she’s wrong because this back pain is killing me
@lindafl haha! I can imagine the results you got ! During menopause I researched why are my legs so hot !! I too got some shocking results 🙂

1 Reaction@lindielulu I don’t think there’s anyway without pain 🙁 To get my knees over 100 degree bend I had to kneel daily .. nothing else pushed them far enough . Hurt at first but got better over time . PT tells me to give it a year for everything to settle and loosen up …. 🫣
