Any double donors out there: liver and kidney?

Posted by rebekahinvt @rebekahinvt, Aug 30, 2019

Hi - just wondering if there are folks who have donated both part of their liver as well as a kidney. I'm about 6 weeks post liver donation and was told to wait at least a year before proceeding with a kidney donation. Anyone already done both?

This is now old information. The recipient and donor do not have to be related. She can be considered even though she has already donated a kidney.

We are all related. That wasn’t the issue. The issue was that my daughter (the potential donor) had already donated a kidney and the transplant center would not consider her donating her liver or part of it in a paired donation scenario. It doesn’t matter now because my daughter was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing chemo and immunotherapy. She would no longer be accepted as a living donor. (I am still needing a kidney.)

@nicolej, Welcome. I see that are a new memebr on Connect. In fact lookls like you just joined today, so you might have not seen the date on the post that you are responding to from 2019. You are correct that the guidelines from 2019 have indeed been updated since then!

Nicolej, Are you a donor or considering being a donor? Are you a recipient? Waiting for a transplant? What organ?
