Does anyone have problems with hair loss with post-COVID?

Posted by the2oldies @the2oldies, Jul 4, 2023

Every morning, I have a comb full of hair strands, both short and long. Any advice on slowing hair loss/thinning? Thanks, Mary

the2oldies, YES! I had tremendous hair loss for about 3 months after Covid. It finally went back to normal hair loss. I used a very good shampoo such as Pureology hydration & the conditioner (My favorite - It's expensive, but very concentrated & very gentle & good)/Nexxus Protein Fusion Shampoo/Conditioner (Very Good - it's not as expensive), Try not to wear your hair up a lot if it's long because it puts tension on the scalp, I do not shampoo my hair but once a week, I let it air dry in these hot summer months and I use a very wide tooth comb to comb out the tangles (gently). I hope this helps. I know it's scary, but everyone just about I talked to that had Covid has had hair loss. I pray it stops soon for you. Blessings & Hugs.....

OMG! Thank you so much for your advice. Will certainly try your routine. Have had post-covid hair loss for over six months. Willing to try anything. Mary

I’ve experienced significant hair loss, lasting over 6 months. I had bald patches here and there about the size of a walnut. Devastating. It’s slowly growing back and a lot of it is returning curly which has made hairstyling really challenging! But at least it’s getting better day by day. One dermatologist told me if I wanted to waste my money on expensive hair products go right ahead, it wouldn’t make any difference. I disagree. Surface has a line called Awaken which targets thinning hair and promotes a healthy scalp. I think it’s helping. Good luck—day by day right?!

Have you had your thyroid checked? This could be the reason for hair loss.

Sure have. Already take meds for that. Levels are fine. Mary

I have had long covid too and a lot of hair loss. I too have a thyroid problem. After two years my hair is now getting thicker. I am still having high BP from covid and drugs interacting with inhaled antibiotics i take for lifelong lung problem. Covid really has caused havoc for many of us. We must keep strong and we will beat it. Take care and know things will get better. Slowly but surely i am getting there and so will you.

I've had a bald spot on the back of my head for decades. Since my (relatively mild) acute case of covid a year ago, I've experienced a significant loss of hair on the top of my head.

I'm losing hair too. But not sure if it's COVID or age or both.
