Do you take midodrine?
I have LOW BP and am taking midodrine 10mg, 3xday. Can anyone let me know if they also take midodrine and exactly what dosages at what intervals and at what BP, please? Usually my first dosage gets my BP up to about 141-2, systolic, but I'm afraid to take a second dose at that pressure. But, if I don't take it, then I suffer when it goes down again!

I am puzzled why you would not be asking the medical provider who prescribed this medication your question.
This should have been verbally given to you and also on your medication bottle or box.
Why would you want to get your PB up to 141-2 level. Normal (just a statistic) is 120 sytoloic and 80 distolic.
My BP ranges from 120s 80s when my weight is up and low 90/60 when I lose weight. I take Entresto and Carvididol and my heart failure doctor closely monitors my BP and we adjust when I take it when it gets too low (take the two at different times not all at once).
I am not on midodrine. Maybe someone who takes it can pass on their expereinces with it. But at 78 years of age now I really suggest you talk to your medical providers about your concern. What another person takes as a dosage and when it specific to them and should not be seen as what you should do. Talk to those medical providers who prescribed it. If you are not getting questions answers I suggest go to another provider.
Just started midodrine for neurogenic OH.
I could use some advice myself. My PCP prescribed
5 mg three times a day. Cardiologist suggested taking
it before I get out of bed but pressure is low normal in the morning. At this time BP is widely variable with a sluggish heart rate response. I wear support stockings
and have plenty of fluids.I noticed a headache yesterday
and BP was 88/50 after I forgot my afternoon dose.
I’m learning to live with spikes and valleys and how I feel. Was surprised low reading was the cause of a headache.
Systolic of 140s does not alarm me. Do you have an accurate automatic monitor with pulse reading.?
Hope we get more input from experienced users.
I've taken Midodrine on/off for the past 10 years or so (along with Droxidopa). I found it best to make sure spaced evenly (ex - 8:30a, 2;30p, 8:30p). If it seems that 10mg might be pushing your BP too high, maybe 5mg every 3 hrs (ex - 8:30a, 11:30a, 2:30p, 5:30p, 8:30p....adjusted based on when you actually take your 1st dose). Key is consistency & even spacing. I know every 3 hours can be a pain but if it works/helps it is worth it. Set a reminder to come up on your watch/phone so you don't miss any. Run that idea past your Cardiologist. FYI my BP had been as low as 60's/40's. My Dr. wants my resting BP to be in the 130's-140's (he said 120's & I'd be on the floor). Hope this helps. Please let us know with a follow up.
Hi Lucy, thanks for your response. I see Droxidopa is prescribed for Parkinson; do you have Parkinson's? My cardiologist has no idea why I have low BP everyday! I don't have Parkinson's Disease I have no problem timing or spacing out a dosage regime but I am interested in your BP at those times. i.e. would you take a 2nd dose 3 hrs. later if the first dose raised your pressure to 145 systolic, or even higher?
No Parkinsons - possibly nOH (secondary-I am diabetic).
I would try doing 5mg with 3 hr spacing (check this idea out with Dr) if 10mg is raising BP that much. It takes about 45 min. for Midodrine to start to work-how soon after taking it does your BP go that high?
5mg to not raise so much but then again in 3 hrs to get sustained effect. Check BP & see how that does. I would NOT do 10mg every 3 hrs if your BP is going that high after taking 10mg
If I needed to go shopping/something on my feet all the time, I would take an extra 5mg about 1/2 hr before getting to the store. My BP was so low, my Dr actually had me taking 15mg 4x/day-added the 200mg Droxidopa when that wasn't working well enough (then I was able to cut back to 10mg with occasional 5mg "boost").
Right now I am off all the meds to raise my BP....don't know if it is the colder weather or what "re-set" me (might also be weight related-was in hospital & lost too much weight-just getting back to slightly over 100 pounds now). I was also able to go from 20-30mg compression socks to 15-20's. Was able to get off meds once before too when Dx'd w/Afib & had multiple ablations (No Afib episodes now since 2022).
Please let me know how you are doing. Don't forget to run this idea (5mg every 3 hrs instead of 10mg every 6 hr) by your Dr.
141 Sounds a little high to me Maybe discuss the doses with your doctor Can’t read your bottom number
141 Sounds a little high to me Maybe discuss the doses with your doctor Can’t read your bottom number Oh got cha 141 -142 Still that’s high I would think
Lucy, I've worked up to 10mg 3xday....Anything lower has no effect. Besides, I'm 85 yo and the normal average BP would be closer to 140/90, not 120/80, unless you're 21 years old. I'm in constant contact via our Portal with my cardiologist and she has agreed with everything I'm doing, so far. I find that midodrine does not give me consistent results, however, better than nothing. It usually takes about 2 hours to work; sometimes longer! I take my BP with HR several times/day because I need to get my BP high enough to do my power walk (1 mile as fast as possible) and I can't do it with 106/65, or similar. I needs to be mid to high 130's or low 140's for me to feel good enough to walk....otherwise all I want to do is sleep! I know the recommended dosages and as I said, talk with my cardiologist, but I want to know exactly what others are doing and experiencing with their midodrine and not some inane advice from those who don't even take it or haven't experienced OH. Of course, this is not you! BTW my lowest BP was 68/46 on 4/29/2025.... It's no fun wasting 1/2 of your day before you feel like doing anything. I also want to know if anyone has experienced supine hypertension. I've fallen asleep many times after dosing with midodrine and it never affected my BP.
It's not too high for 85 yo
