Do you need to sanitize your toothbrush every day?
I am really vigilant about cleaning my equipment for nebulizing and airway clearance. What should we do about our toothbrushes? We brush our teeth multiple times a day. The MAC is probably on there. I can’t boil my toothbrush or use a new one each time I brush.
I read about soaking in vinegar. Is that pure or diluted vinegar? Should it always be left in a small glass with some vinegar after brushing and rinsing teeth? Then you have to rinse it really well afterwards (with your tap water that probably contains MAC). If you know your tap water does have MAC, what do you do?
I now have disposable cups and pot bottled water in them for rinsing my mouth as well as for cleaning my toothbrush. Am I doing too much?

First.....that was a houseful of little personalities.
Yes, so true. Most time a Mother's words, who is use to just doing, will say "It's fine, I can do it."
Glad you stepped back and allowed the help.
For me, the way life unfolded, it is a bit different with no family here and having stayed single and now at an age where others my age are limited for various reasons....help will be hired as much as possible. So yes Sue, it is that time in life for various reasons that one needs to ask for help or hire help. I agree with you. Happy bed stripping and laundry day! Thanks
Barbara

1 ReactionI use a sonicare electric toothbrush and the heads can be boiled. There are also some brands of toothbrush that don’t melt. So, I boil for ten minutes in an Instant Pot with a silicone strainer basket I got on Amazon with the rest of my equipment. (I got an extra Instant Pot really cheap on NextDoor), and then I dry and store everything in a baby bottle sterilizer. I only use boiled water to brush and rinse my teeth. After I brush, I just have a little “used” receptacle for my used toothbrushes until I wash them in soapy water first and then boil for the ten minutes.
Hi....
Were you able to read the comments back in September of 2023 that Sue posted and found. You are being very careful....How do you find the time and money to do it all...with work and cooking etc. etc.
Be careful that you are not stressing yourself out. The stress of trying to do it all will not be of great help to you, as you know. Thinking of You.

Thank you for looking out for me, Barbara. I am being extremely conservative, I know. But I want to try to eliminate as much bacterial load as possible right now—and in time, if overwhelmed, I will slough off the less consequential practices if I must. I would really love to avoid the big 3 and so airway clearance and the precautions are a big part of that. The conference this week had a lot of useful information for me and they went through a hierarchy of risks that was quite helpful —Drs. Honda and Falkinham. Once I settle, I will share some of that.

5 ReactionsI've adopted my way for sanitizing my mouth guard and toothbrushes. I soak all the toothbrushes I've used the day before the next morning while I'm doing airway clearance. I pour straight blue liquid Dawn on each toothbrush as though I'm putting toothpaste on them. I put all the toothbrushes in a glass of 130 degree water to soak while I am nebulizing and doing airway clearance. After I nebulize, I soak my neb parts in 130-degree water with pure blue Dawn while I do airway clearance. When I finish my morning nebbing and airway clearance, I rinse everything with the 130-degree tap water, wearing gloves. The tooth brushes I hold under the 130-degree water. Shake out and put in my Phillips baby sterilizer to run through the cycle with my neb parts. I lay the toothbrushes face down on the top rack. They do not melt. I also run the baby sterilizer through two drying cycles to ensure everything is completely dry. I stand all the toothbrushes up in a clean glass covered with a clean paper towel until I use them.
This may not be the safest way, but it takes little time and gives me a fraction of peace that I've tried to minimize bacteria from a wet toothbrush rinsed with water, which is what I did before NTM and BE.
Good luck navigating all the things we do to stay as safe as possible without driving ourselves insane.

2 ReactionsI put my toothbrush in my Bololo sterilizer after each use, along with my nebbing cups and acapella: it makes sense to me and has kept me safe from exacerbations for the last 18 months. It's an easy and simple process and I do believe it does make a significant difference. When I travel, I take with me a box or two of bamboo toothbrushes (cheap on Amazon), soak them in alcohol after each use and throw them away after a couple of use. It gives me peace of mind.

2 ReactionsAfter every use I disconnect the hard of the electric toothbrush, rinse in and out with filtered water I keep in bathroom and then rinse or soak in alcohol. I rinse the brush with filtered water again before use. I like to throw out brushes every week or 2, buy generic ones.
