Do you fit this paradigm?

I caught COVID on Halloween 2020 and became very sick for about 3 weeks. I was very healthy and fit; I participated in many sports/outdoor activities and traveled quite a bit. After ‘recovery’, I felt better for a bit but never really great. I tried to scuba dive, hike, travel, etc but I just wasn’t enjoying it much. Never felt very good, cried over nothing all the time and had horrible panic attacks. About a year later, I started to get really sick: rashes, allergies to everything, shortness of breath, internal tremors, brain fog, facial tics, nerve pain, muscle pain, everything smells like burning algae, exercise is a joke. Constant crying, depression, nihilism, fear…you know the drill. Fatigue that cannot be adequately described.

So, I’m just wondering who else fits this paradigm? Infection with ‘classic’ COVID before the vaccine and then never really got completely better for a time? Then, started a slow, steady decline that stole away everything in life that gave you joy? Anybody see improvement or find anything that helps? By the way, I do have a freaking army of doctors and I’m a patient at UNC Covid so I’m not lacking in medical attention.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

After a couple of weeks feeling better, in fact, thinking about planning a trip, I am on day 2 of severe headaches/increased tremors/tics, fatigue, fear, can’t get out of bed….ad nauseum. I hate this illness. It tricks you and then sucker punches you. The good news is that I start the RECOVER-VITAL Paxlovid study very soon.

I can relate, since covid I keep declining. But before covid and exactly 2 weeks after 2nd vaccine I had 2 small strokes. Then 3 months later I got covid. I has been hell ever since. I was in decent health for 76, now 79.

The remark should have been IT HAS BEEN HELL, not I HAS BEEN HELL.

The local Drs. where I live either don't hear me or don't know enough to at least explain to me what's going on. I have a friend whose husband and I had very similar symptoms and had testing at Mayo and was told he has long covid. As far as I know, they couldn't really give him an answer or a cure...I get that!!! But then please inform general practitioners how to explain this to their patients while they wonder if they are just going crazy!!! I've been fairly healthy my whole life...that is...until after I got Covid-19! I'm sad and depressed along with dealing with symptoms that I can't even talk to my Provider about. Sorry for the Rant!

I definitely will. Once my primary adjusts a couple meds, I’ll have my first visit, probably within the next couple of weeks.

Can you get a more educated provider? Nothing wrong with seeing another doctor or even asking your provider for a referral.

I did get a second provider...a neuropsychologist at the larger Main Sanford hospital that did memory testing and when I asked her about my condition being related to Covid, she replied..."You cannot have Long Covid "Unless you were on a Ventilator!" That's when I gave up! I wasn't going to argue with a specialist!
I've done a little of my own research and "NO WHERE" have I read that!! I cancelled my follow-up appointment with her. If a specialist tells me that, then she basically said, I had to live with.
Also at age 63 I had to take early retirement as a lab technician, because I was afraid of making a mistake. My thinking hasn't changed nor my memory hasn't seemed to improved either. So frustrating.

What study is that? Did you have Covid or was it from the vaccine?

REPLY

It’s the RECOVER-VITAL Paxlovid study. I had COVID before there was a vaccine.
