Diuretics lost their power?

I'm 91 with CHF from a leaky valve and have been using Furosemide, 80 MG/day, for about 2 years and while it was very effective at first it barely works now and my weight is increasing steadily.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any solution?

I am NOT a health expert, and certainly nothing remotely like a cardiologist: the disordered heart tends to progress toward greater disorder. IOW, the disorder progresses. This is true with arrhythmias and with heart failure due to chronicity in valve misfunction or pathology. If the treatment is prescribed for Level One, for want of a better descriptor of the condition being treated, and you very slowly progress to Level Two over a decade, you should anticipate that the previous prescription might now be insufficient. Perhaps a different strength is indicated, or maybe an entirely new drug or approach, including surgery, might be indicated.

As much as a person with any sensibility might be loath to hear it, your age is charitably 'advanced', and you are at the point in your life where events take place inside of weeks, or months, but not over years. You bear more frequent monitoring by your caregivers at this point, and they should hear from you that you appear to be losing ground.

Also, ascites, the condition where a person seems to put on weight quickly, especially if it shows around your midriff, is due to retained fluids. This can be a kidney problem, or a kidney problem because of an endocrine or a weak heart problem. It is a common treatment to go in and have yourself 'relieved' as an outpatient. But really, you need to let your physician know of this change, and do it before it leaves you in irreversible circumstances that, at your age, are compelling and life-altering.

Good luck, gymlady.

Try blueberries for breakfast every day.
Both I and my nephew have been eating them for the past 30 years and neither one of us has been sick with anything until my heart started complaining 2 years ago. Sob.
