Dilemma with my Cardiologist

Posted by thankful @thankful, Nov 16, 2022

Well, where do I start! Last October I was finally able to have my ECHO scheduled because of Covid and was called that same day after it to find out that they found a clot in my heart. I was put on Warfarin immediately and about a month later we went to our winter home in AZ. I was able to find a top Cardiologist there through a dear friend and after meeting with me on my 1st appt. he scheduled me for another ECHO. It came back negative (I had been on Warfarin then about 2 1/2 months). He scheduled me then for what he refers to the "Gold Standard" for seeing what's going on with the heart. It was a Heart MRI, which took another 1 1/2 months to get scheduled for. The results were no clot! That was last late March. My AZ Dr. told me I could stop taking Warfarin.
I just had my annual Cardiologist appt. here in OR. and was hoping for some "Ater boys" because I just had received the results on lipid blood work and was the best I've ever had. But no, just Why did you go off Warfarin? Since I had been placed with a PA the last 2 years and supposely they were talking, but he had to be brought up to date on what had transpired. He still felt that I should remain on Warfarin and said most likely for the rest of my life.
When I sked if there was something else because of the problems I had keeping my INR in check he checked the internet and said yes how about Xarelto 20 mg.
It all seemed so strange the way things went that day and I decided to contact my PCP and my AZ Cardiologist about their thoughts.
I heard back from my PCP right away and he said he has been hearing about some "odd interactions" up at the Heart & Vascular Dept. He told me once I hear from the AZ DR. he would go with that decision. Still no word back from AZ?
I'm not against taking Warfarin or even Xarelto but it just was so strange the way it came about.
I just read @predictable waying in on Eliquis and as always Martin brings great experience and wisdom to all his posts.
I will keep you all posted what's next in this drama!

Hi Jim @thankful, Wowzer! I would have been expecting an attaboy too if it were me. That sounds like a really good report from the Arizona cardiologist and the heart MRI showing no clot. Hoping to hear what your Arizona doc has to say. Take care my friend!
