@roses2 oddly, I just got home 2 hours ago from my breast surgeon. She has refused to ‘guesstimate’ what impact having a mastectomy will have on my life expectancy.
In 01- 2002 I was diagnosed with DCIS: lumpectomy & radiation without any repercussions until a year ago. Now diagnosed with ILC at age 79.
Someone is going to have BC, so why should I think I’m so much better than any other woman that I shouldn’t have BC? This is what I believed in 2002 and what I believe in 2025.
I’m willing to have a medical intervention IF it will give me another 10 years or so.
BUT I’ve already outlived the age a white woman born in the US in 1946 had to look forward to. So no ‘treatments’ for me thank you!
Diet changes, exercise, mediation, hobbies, friends: sure. No surgery or meds for me thank you!

No one can guarantee you an additional 10 years of life.
It’s all a guess predicated on cancer.
You slip and fall and break your hip.
You get into a car accident.
You have a stroke.
You have a heart attack.
What does cancer have to do with these things?
Nothing. But these things CAN happen and some are worse than cancer.
I reasoned when I had to drive 40 miles one way for chemo.
Thats 80 miles and in a metroplex.
My chances of getting into a car accident were greater than my dying with stage 3 cancer.
We must realize our time here is short and theres more to life after we leave here if you have a faith.
You must make your own choice. But no doctor can guarantee by having a surgical procedure it secures continued life.
During the procedure they might find you have other problems going on or your cancer is worse than they thought.
“Tomorrow is promised to no one.”
Please understand, Im being genuine here and not meaning or saying this harmfully.
Best to you.
79 years is a lot of living. Youve been blessed!

Good morning!
Thank you for your blog. I love the information that you provided. I do listen to Dr. Li and follow most of his advice. I will research the other information you provided since I am definitely open to learning more about how to treat BC without conventional methods. Please keep me informed as you learn more.

I do not have a blog, but Im glad you are finding lots of information here. Its a great place to be.
I do a lot of research and I have a phenomenal oncologist who respects my questions and thoughts etc.
I learned something new after completing my radiation for BC in my stomach lining. It was much harsher than my BC radiation on my chest. My radiologist warned me that radiation on the stomach area was much harsher than radiation on the breast/ chest. He was spot on. I had little side effects with my chest radiation. Smooth sailing with a teeny bit of fatigue.
What did I learn after 4 visits to the ER and staying overnight twice?
My channel blocker, Diltiazem was literally causing me low blood pressure and getting the additional saline infusions didnt help. I was internally drying out while being fried.
So, when getting radiation, CHECK YOUR MEDS to see if they cause lower or higher BP.
Best to you, Roses2.

Unfortunately I have had some rather intense GI issues after having chemo and then Covid a month later. I have had a large workup and it boils down to eating a FODMAP diet a closely as I can. It has helped but I am not getting the nutrition that I would prefer. Many of the vegetables that I like are not allowed or if I eat them then I pay for it. I am doing the best that I can. Recently, I have been able to get by with just a tiny bite or two of my favorites like broccoli and cauliflower. Dairy is another that I have to watch carefully. My oncologist is strict about what over the counter vitamins, etc., that one takes. She is not a fan.

@ksue3

Very sorry to hear about your dietary and other complications. I can imagine restriction of your favorite vegetables is difficult.

Have you considered a consultation with a GI specialized Oncologist?

Free Belle Ruth Naperstak MSW Guided Imgery STRESS YouTube videos are available that might possibly be helpful. She has many others that you may purchase in I Tubes or Other App stores.

Best,

Susan

@ebtexas55 I was never looking for a guarantee, only a guess that stats indicate would be the possible number of years a specific protocol COULD ADD to my life. There are no studies that can postulate even a 3-5 year possibility.
Why go through the pain/trauma/stress? Especially when the average, HEALTHY woman would only live another 1-2 years. Life is too short to live the remainder of it on tenterhooks. We each make our own decisions …

REPLY

Im with you.
Stats are only a guess at best and if the guess is 2-3 years more, the weight of the decision is on longevity or quality.
Ive seen too many people in my lifetime desperate for longevity at the expense of quality.
We each have to make our choice.
I hope whavtever you decide gives you peace.
Best to you, Mimi!
May you seize each day with thanksgiving, grace, filled with love and joy. ❤️🌺🪻🌸

I agree. I met with a naturopathic doctor on Thursday and decided that I don't want surgery. This doctor was so thorough. She is sending me for labs that should have been ordered by my surgeon. Months have passed, and my only option is surgery. I finally got an appointment to see an oncologist on 11/11, but I think that natural medicine is the way to go. I want quality of life for my remaining years.
I wish you luck on your journey. Please keep in touch. We need supportive people in our lives who can understand what we are dealing with.
God bless.

@roses2 ABSOLUTELY!! the medical profession is being degraded in the same way the insurance industry, technology gurus, banking millionaires, etc. Those who want to be cared for, or treated as persons of worth are being ignored. It is so very sad.
We need to research and advocate for ourselves because the days of strangers taking that role has surely passed us by.
Hugs and prayers to you…and all the others who want and need that in their lives.
