Anyone who had prostate surgery experience penis length shortening?

Posted by patrickpyper @patrickpyper, Jun 20, 2023

I am scheduled for prostate removal on August 28th. I have heard that some men lose length in their penis due to the reattachment of the bladder and urethra which pulls the penis into where the prostate use to be. I have heard over time the bladder will drop into that space and you regain your length. I was hoping anyone who has experienced this could share their story. I also bought a pump hoping that post surgery that might help as well.

@pesquallie thanks for your post! This RP has been such a learning experience! I was circumcised at birth, rather tightly, but after my shrinkage I look uncircumcised now! Foreskin completely covers the head now. I still try the penis pump and pills daily but no change yet!

@billybwbf2 same with me! I used to have a big cut penis now I’m small and uncut! It seems so strange! It’s a weird feeling to have a tiny uncut penis that doesn’t get hard! I’m hoping I may recover.

I used the pump to facilitate recovery after surgery, increasing blood flow, etc., and I have read that the pump also reduces the shortening that can happen. In my case, I have noticed I have more length now than before, maybe from using the pump?

1 to 2 centimeters
How much will penis shorten post prostatectomy

Post-prostatectomy, men may experience a reduction in penis length, typically ranging from 1 to 2 centimeters. This reduction can be significant, with some studies indicating that almost half of men undergoing surgery may see a reduction of 1.0 cm or more. The average reduction is often modest, but individual experiences may vary. Factors such as nerve damage and lack of regular erections contribute to this change, leading to a permanent size reduction.

I’ll worry about that “if” I am ever able to get an erection again. Since a woman’s vagina is 3”-4” deep, most of us won’t have much to worry about, although I always wished that I could get all 10” inside. 🤣

@ramblinman

It is quiet possible that your penis got longer than it was before since it is proven in some studies that pump and "stretching" in general causes lengthening of a penis. There were no studies conducted to see if penis returns to original length when this kind of "exercise" was discontinued for extended period of time. But, I read all of this last year and maybe new studies about permanence were done in the meantime.

My husband's penis has absolutely NO shortening and same as you - to the contrary.

@billybwbf2 and @pesquallie, my situation is completely the same as both of yours. I also had a routine infant circumcision (if you can consider cutting off part of a penis as "routine") which, pesquallie, I also considered tight. But my penis has shrunk following radiation for prostate cancer followed by a salvage prostatectomy. I was overweight up until 10 or so years ago, and although I am back under my ideal weight, the "pubic fat pad" under my belt has not gone away. As a result my previously average circumcised penis (I was always a grow-er rather than a show-er but six and a half inches when erect) also looks uncircumcised with what remains of my foreskin completely covering the glans and at times I "turn turtle" with my scrotum completely engulfing my penis. I no longer have the dexterity to use my penis pump but should probably try to refill the prescription of Cialis that my urologist is willing to prescribe for penile rehabilitation.

@bwjb it happened with me too! I have been circumcised since birth but now because of shrinkage the excess sling on my penis covers the head like a foreskin. I used to be well hung and proud so I documented my “before and after” for those wanting to know accurate facts in my situation! I was told I had an extremely large prostate which required me taking meds to shrink it even before surgery. That large prostate make have been the reason for my large shrinkage after surgery. The simple explanation given to me was (simply put) they cut your urethra tube in front and back of the prostate then see the urethra back together. The space the prostate took up is how much length you loose when they pull your penis into your body to sew the urethra together! Before surgery I was 6 inches soft. After surgery I was 3 inches soft. Before surgery I was 7.5 inches long when hard. After surgery I am 6 inches long when hard ( with the help of Tri mix). There you have it! What ever length you lose it is worth it to be cancer free!
