Did anyone not get a Biopsy for a suspicious breast nodule?

Posted by dhopp102 @dhopp102, Mar 13 10:04am

I have a 4.2mm nodule in my left breast, it is suggested to get a biopsy and I just don't think I want to go that route just yet. Has anyone done a liquid biopsy? I'm exploring other options and I'm pretty conflicted about getting the biopsy, so much information out there that is not productive, just scary. Trying to exhaust all avenues before biopsy.

Have you done a mammogram first, or an ultrasound?
Biopsies are regular, I had done it twice, once at a local provider that had never knows a man with BC and at Mayo. Both were accurate.
Mine was 2.5 cm.

Getting the biopsy will help define the type of cancer as well as grade and stage. That is important for the treatment if it is malignant. If benign just keep watching and getting mamms regularly and do self checks.

I don't even know if it is a cancer to begin with 80% of this type is non-cancerous, my point is I don't want to "poke" the bear with a biopsy, I would rather do a liquid biopsy or just take it out completely without further stressing the area. @kbk8248

@dhopp102 You should only act on medical advice from an oncologist, of course, but for what it's worth, I'd say to absolutely get the biopsy! They numb the area, so it's not a painful procedure. The old argument that a biopsy is causing actual damage is not scientifically valid. It's been thoroughly debunked. Please biopsy the spot.

Thanks for your opinion, on the flip side of that I also don't trust some Oncologists or pretty much alot of other Dr's at this point. I'm not worried about the pain of the procedure, just have frustrations with understanding why we should take medical advice as gospel without doing research, I'm tired of having toxic medicine thrown at you as a must have approach. @jmab

I considered not doing it because I just didn't want one. But my nurse friend along with my gynecologist told me Of course it's your choice, but wouldn't you at least like to know? I found a bra on Amazon that is called Fairy bra or something. It provides a lot of support, but better yet, it has a little slit in it so you can slip the ice pack they give you right into it. Anyway, I'm quite happy that I decided to get one. It's so early and they can treat it without toxic medicine. I agree with you about being skeptical, And I've been healthy most all my 69 years... seriously - never had any major illness... hip replacement. that's it. So, I just snorted when they said I'd need a biopsy... but, I'll tell you something to just ponder: The only thing you have to lose by not getting one, is the assurance of knowing you don't have anything. Or, you do and then you will have options how to treat it - IF YOU WANT...

You're right at least it would be nice to know and IF it is, it would be early to treat. Whatever it is, I would just like to get it taken out. But I don't think any Dr will take it out without a biopsy 🙁
Thank you for the kind words and good health to you!

@dhopp102 it's good to be cautious, but a biopsy simply determines if your tissue is malignant, as I'm sure you're aware. No toxic medicines involved. My view is that we are fortunate to be living in this modern world with procedures like biopsies at our fingertips. People in the past weren't so lucky.

@dhopp102 if doctors cut out every suspicious lump without a biopsy, there'd be a lot of unnecessary surgeries. Most biopsies are benign.
