What food can I eat after Diarrhea?

Heloo all,😊, would like to ask can we eat orange, honey, papaya after diarrhea?
How many days later can we have milk, red meat? Cake? Thanks

Hi @sylviapat, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You might want to introduce food like oranges and papaya very slowly after a bout of diarrhea. Milk products, pork and veal and fruit should be avoided while you have diarrhea.

How long has it been since you had diarrhea? How long did it last? Do you know what caused you to have loose stool?

I find chicken noodle soup and crackers help me some. I use the Campbell's.

Monday morning on 15, I drink stale drinks I think (contain dairy too). Plus I add milk. After tat it goes ... awful.
Tuesday oke. Wednesday I drink milk, cheese.
The evening ... awful again
Thurs oke. Friday wrong meal again (coz I didn't know) awful again
Sat I take meds. And careful food this time. Sunday too. A little feeling because beans myb. This morning Monday, stool oke.

So honey and yoghurt shuld be fine? I think we need to restore bacteria ecosystem?
Does yoghurt with added flavour okay?

If your diarrhea was caused by IBS, you’ll have to give up honey in favor of maple syrup. Otherwise, give it a try.

@sylviapat@sylviapat - Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I think that everyone has wondered about what to eat. One well-known diet that I find extremely helpful is called the BRAT Diet. ((Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast). https://www.webmd.com/children/brat-diet

I use this diet and it works well. Right now you want to calm your digestive system down. I use BRAT even when I'm "going" if I'm hungry. I hope that you are feeling better.
Are you running a fever or other symptoms?

I'm just waiting to have dairy again

I am really interested in this discussion because I was diagnosed with IBS in early May and have been struggling with what to eat. My gastroenterologist took me completely off of dairy foods because I am lactose intolerant. However, I only drink lactose free milk anyway and always take lactase pills when eating cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc. Avoiding milk products has not helped. I am having trouble identifying trigger foods.

I am constantly hungry between meals and have lost 4 to 5 pounds. Not good for me as I am ver thin.

Taking half doses of Imodium 3 x during the day has helped me to have fewer “emergency episodes”. There had been 1, 2, or 3 very urgent episodes right after waking in the morning. Has anyone used Rifaxamin?

I would encourage all of you who are dealing with IBS to take a look at a discussion group about Fodmap eating plan, specifically dealing with IBS symptoms. Here is some information from Mayo Clinic's website (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/irritable-bowel-syndrome/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20360064) about treatments for IBS,

"Your doctor might suggest that you eliminate from your diet: High-gas foods. If you experience bloating or gas, you might avoid items such as carbonated and alcoholic beverages, caffeine, raw fruit, and certain vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower.
Gluten. Research shows that some people with IBS report improvement in diarrhea symptoms if they stop eating gluten (wheat, barley and rye) even if they don't have celiac disease.
FODMAPs. Some people are sensitive to certain carbohydrates such as fructose, fructans, lactose and others, known as FODMAPs — fermentable oligo-, di-, and monosaccharides and polyols. FODMAPs are found in certain grains, vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Your IBS symptoms might ease if you follow a strict low-FODMAP diet and then reintroduce foods one at a time.
A dietitian can help you with these diet changes."

Hi @elmay what cause your ibs n since when. I'm also very thin. What is your emergency episode?
I tink you should just eat whenever u hungry.
