Diagnosed with bartonella

Posted by jwovoss @jwovoss, Dec 1, 2020

I am reaching out because I am hoping for some help treating Bartonella that my natural path diagnosed me with. I have been actively trying to rid this co-infection from my body for over four years. I have tried many natural pathic remedies and and antibiotic (Ramifalin I haven't tried due to my doctor saying it is for TB patient, even though text and research say to take this specific antibiotic to battle bartonella). If you are familiar with this co-infection, you know it suppress your immune system causing havoc in your body. My symptoms are: racing heart rate, twitching of muscles, tingliness of limbs, brain fog, depression, extreme anxiety, hopelessness, swelling in my hands, pain in my feet, insomnia, fatigue, whole body pain, in ability to regulate temperature, joint swelling/pain. I have attempted to control it with diet (gluten free, low histamine, low magnesium, vegan), supplements, and antibiotics but cannot see to rid this of my body. I noticed if I supplement magnesium my symptoms worsen. However, magnesium is a key mineral for your body. On top of all of those symptoms above, this co-infection causes leaky gut and other virus to arise that your immune suppresses over the years, such as Epstein Barr. I went from a collegiate athlete to having difficult time getting out of bed and or each and every day I am battling this co-infection. I am reaching out to see if anyone can help. I am desperate for any kknowledge or a direction to follow.

I just wanted to add a comment regarding the article you linked me-in naming the cormorbidities- diverticulitis is named.this is not correct without explanation.Diverticulitis is an active infection of a diverticulum or outpouching in the colon. No one sane prescribes something, say for example, prednisone to a patient with this type of active infection. However once the infection has been successfully treated, the patient now is said to have diverticulosis-simply the presence of the outpouchings with no infectious process.

@darkarta - Not sure if you have seen the following info but thought I would share it

"Sep 13, 2019 — It is well documented that patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at ... malignancies, infections, diverticulitis, osteoporosis, and depression."

I believe that malignancies, infections, and osteoporosis might be the results of the meds people with RA take. I have RA and am depressed about it. It hurts. During the covid pandemic I am not taking anything that could mess with my immune system and told my rheumatologist that I'd be back after my vaccination.

Hi Ellens,I have RA,or they think so,because its very early on for me.I take all my meds. religiously as it is,I think, the only way to get inflammation under control.Inflammation leads to cancer and other diseases,As far as the meds.being the cause of some of these things,I think that's reasonable, but there are ways around effects from meds.In the face of Covid because some meds.make a person immune compromised, its best to take all precautions. But a vaccine is still a bit away and whether immune compromised people will be even able to get the vaccine I am not sure they know yet.Speak to your doctor,Ellens, again if necessary. Its a real down to have this,I know. But the outlook can be good.Kind regards to you from Canada.

I too have Bartonella Henselae and Bartonella Quintana. I caught mine thru an infected cat scratch back in 2014. I took antibiotics but not enough. Jan 2020 I had a relapse with it,,,it had laid dormant in my (axilla) lymphnodes. (Left armpit). Dr. put me on Doxycycline and the Rifampin for 1 year. I had to take both of them at the same time every 12 hours no eating 2 hours before and 1 hour after. AND ABSOLUTELY NO MILK as that dilutes the antibotics...long story long journey of trying to keep myself alive....normally healthy people could recover easily, but my underlying health issue is Psorisis. Drs tested me for everything from Cancer, HIV RNA, HPV, all were undetected. I was getting blood drawn once a month to check Bartonella Reflex Titers Levels (do you have yours to see what your levels are? check the IGG) the book you must read to know exactly what this disease is doing to you and what nutrients its depleting your body from is the Stephen Harrod Bruhner guide...(oh my gosh,,,this book is a life saver)
Healing Lyme Disease Co-infections Complementary and holistic treatments for Bartonella and Mycoplasma By Stephen Harrod Buhner
I now have been diagnosed with Bartonelliosis. My Dr. explained it like this...I will always test positive for Bart its a bacteria you can kill some of it but not all of it..like Chicken Pox or the Measles. Just a little side note ....The Rifampin and the Doxycycline were to treat the Henselae not the Quintana. The Rifampin wont do anything to the Quintana as the Quintana is resistant to the Rifampin. My Bart level for the Henselae is up at 1,024 (how high can it get? not sure. My Quintana level is at 256.

Welcome @crisrasmussen0402, Thank you for sharing your experience with Bartonella Henselae and Bartonella Quintana. Since you are not able to share links for a short period of time after you join Connect, I thought I would share the link to the book you recommended in your post - Healing Lyme Disease Co-infections Complementary and holistic treatments for Bartonella and Mycoplasma By Stephen Harrod Buhner: https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Lyme-Disease-Coinfections-Complementary/dp/1620550083

I also have cats and wasn't familiar with Bartonellosis so did a little research and found this interesting article from 2019 --- Human Bartonellosis: An Underappreciated Public Health Problem?: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6630881/

Do you mind sharing what you were searching for when you found Connect?

Have you used Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/) to search for medical information? It's a great resource for finding studies and some of the latest research. Here are the search results for "bartonella henselae treatment" --- https://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_ylo=2022&q=bartonella+henselae+treatment&hl=en&as_sdt=0,24

You can sort the results by date on the left so that you can see the newest links.

did you ever figure this out? I have the exact same thing and I've had it for years and the brain fog is getting so bad and my kidneys and liver are swollen and my lymph nodes are still swollen and I can't seem to find anything that works because my brain fog is so bad that I just research and stare at my phone all day and can't pull a treatment plan together

Welcome @neetpirate, I'm not sure if @jwovoss who started this discussion is still following Connect. There was an earlier post by @crisrasmussen0402 that might be helpful here:

Have you discussed your brain fog and other symptoms with your doctor? Are you on any medications that could be having some side effects?

Apr 20, 2023. Have you found any help with your Bartonella? I have Lyme disease, Bartonella and Babesia. Who knows what else I got from the tick bite in June 2010.

I’m first checking to see if you’re still on this thread. Please let me know.
